I'm Scott M., the breeder behind Dachshunds on the Hill located in Grand Valley, PA. Our dogs are bred to have top qualities that all families want in their puppies, such as compassion, patience, and love! The sweet, loyal, and playful disposition of our dogs inspired us to begin responsibly breeding to expand the breed and share them with others.
Q. & A. with Scott
Why did you start breeding?
My wife and I have always have always had dachshunds. We had got into breeding them about 30 years ago. Then as our children started getting into sports and getting busier we had got out of the business. They are grown now with their own children and we are back in the business of raising our favorite breed! Our number one goal is to breed toward a good temperament. The dogs and puppies are raised around our grandchildren.
What makes your program special?
All puppies are raised in our home and socialized with children. Any adult we don’t feel has the right temperature to be carried out in their line is spayed or neutered and kept as a member of our family. We only want to breed exceptional temperaments. We would say temperament is our number one concern.
What are the different breed sizes in your program?
Our puppies are miniature size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat types in your program?
Our puppies include wirehaired, smooth, and longhaired coat varieties. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include brindle, wheaten, chocolate and tan, blue and tan, black and tan, and dapple. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

I was incredibly worried that getting a dog wasn’t right for me as I already had so much on my plate. I wish I would’ve known that getting my puppy would actually make me feel like weight was lifted off my shoulders. Maverick is the sweetest, funniest, most well behaved dog. Everywhere we go, people are shocked that he has such good temperament and will be besties with any person or dog around. Besides being so freaking adorable, he is ridiculously smart and charismatic. The dogs are well kept by Scott and Heather and all of them are beyond sweet! So grateful to Hounds on the Hill for bringing me my best friend!! I highly recommend finding your fur baby here!!

Amazing communication from start to finish working with the Madigans! Emotions were high looking for a new pup after losing our 13 year old Penny and wanting to find a responsible breeder ,blind of suggestion and going on the internet. Things couldn't have went better.Of special note, when we picked up Daisy & met the other doxies, including her parents- the temperment on all the dogs was so beautiful, calm and loving.Daisy is a special pup,she goes from zoomies to snuggly in moments, full of mischief and joy exactly as a pup should be. Our long term vet said we have got a beautiful dog here. Thank you !!

I can’t speak highly enough about my entire interaction with Heather and Hounds on the Hill. I went to visit the litter when they were 3 weeks old and was blown away by the well kept bustling home filled with so much love for all of the creatures. And everyone (people and animals were so sweet). That was when Heather told me about how that is the temperament that they breed for… alright, sure. But a puppy is a puppy, right? Not quite.
While I know I’m a little biased, my boy, Kevin, has blown my mind from the minute I picked him up at 8 weeks. His personality and disposition have me shaking my head in gratitude everyday. He’s the sweetest cuddly boy with the perfect level of silly and curious puppy. He follows me around and started learning commands immediately because he’s extremely intelligent and food motivated. I take him with me everywhere I can and he typically gives kisses to everyone he meets and then just chills in their arms. He is antidepressant in dog form.
On top of allll that, he’s the cutest creature in the entire world. People chase me down so that they can meet him and frequently tell me that he made their entire day.
I was so hesitant about this decision because I’m a broke medical student living alone in an apartment. But from the time I brought him home I’ve told everyone that he is the best decision I ever made. If you are on the fence about getting your own little personal fuzzy antidepressant, do it. The breeding really does matter and Hounds on the Hill is doing all of it right.

Heather and Scott were amazing and so helpful when it came to buying my puppy Nala! They were very fast to responding and without a doubt very professional. My puppy Nala is so very sweet and with in the past week or two has really shown her personality. Nala is so good with kids and absolutely loves people she is so loving and loves to play. It’s clear that Heather and Scott surround the puppy's with love and care. Im so glad I have my Nala and I definitely recommend getting puppies from them!

We cannot recommend Hounds on the Hill enough! They were always very responsive when it came to questions we had, and they even let us come visit before we picked our puppy up! They were very informative throughout the whole process, sent us periodic updates, and even sent us home with a bag of goodies for our puppy! We are so in love with our little guy, he has been the perfect addition to our family thanks to Scott and Heather!

We recently welcomed our sweet puppy, Mavi, into our home and we couldn’t be happier! The entire experience was smooth, positive, and truly heartwarming. Heather and Scott were incredibly caring, knowledgeable, and supportive throughout the process — you can tell they genuinely love what they do. Mavi has been an absolute delight to our family: playful, affectionate, and already settling in beautifully. We’re so grateful for the care and attention that went into bringing her into our lives. Thank you, Heather and Scott, for everything!
