Meet the breeder

I'm Chuck G., the breeder behind Dachshunds Up North located in Bigfork, MN. We are a small Family Breeder of Long Hair, Smooth, and Wire Dachshunds. In 2022, we added a trio of Cairn Terriers. Our dogs live a life of luxury. We strive to breed puppies with a laid-back personality and Disposition, and do everything on our power to set our pups up for a life of health and happiness with their forever familes.

Q. & A. with Chuck

  • Why did you start breeding?

We got into Breeding for the love of Dachshunds. We have been breeding for 30 years, and every day is a Joy for us.
  • What makes your program special?

Our dogs live in our home and are very socialized and loved on! We also are a firm believer in a daily wafer to each of our dogs of Nuvet. Here is a link for you and if link is followed we can track who and how often our puppy's get Nuvet. As long as they get it daily and you follow our recommendations on spay/neutering, we extend our warranty from 1 year to 3 years. That is how much faith we have in Nuvet. https://1drv.ms/w/s!AuiPAtYdpyGCgZILN1u2_9DR2j3T9A?e=g3Lebv

Our Dachshund puppies include miniature and standard sizes. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

Our Dachshund puppies include wirehaired, smooth, and longhaired coat varieties. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our Dachshund puppies include piebald, cream, red, black, chocolate, brindle, fawn (isabella) and tan, chocolate and tan, chocolate and cream, blue and tan, blue and cream, black and cream, and dapple. Cairn Terrier puppies include silver brindle, wheaten, red wheaten, and brindle. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

Chuck and Gwen were so responsive and helpful from start to finish of taking home my new dog, Winston. We flew from NJ all the way to Minnesota to take him home and they were so accommodating and had amazing communication. Everything went by so smoothly and I was sent videos and pictures of Winston as I was waiting to take him home! He’s such a good dog and I can tell he was very well taken care of. Thank you Chuck and Gwen for giving my family our new baby!

Chuck was great to work with! I got weekly videos updating me on how our dog was growing. The videos never seemed rushed and were so personal. He was knowledgable, helpful, and responded quickly. He is so sweet and you can tell he really loves his puppies. We love our dog and he is just perfect all around. I really can't recommend chuck enough; he goes above and beyond. I have told both family and friends about chuck and his puppies. Our 12 hour drive to pick up our dog was totally worth it!

We recently brought home our Cairn Terrier puppy from this breeder, Dachshunds Up North, and we couldn’t be happier with our experience. Our little girl came to us as Kneesaa, now renamed Sandra Dee, and she has been an absolute delight from the moment she arrived. Sandra Dee is everything a Cairn Terrier should be—a spitfire, fiercely independent, energetic, and wonderfully stubborn—yet she’s also incredibly loving. Her personality is huge, and she keeps us laughing every day. It’s clear she was well socialized from the start. Since she grew up with two brothers, she immediately bonded with our own pack, especially our gentle giant, a Great Dane–mastiff mix. Watching her confidently hold her own while playing with a dog ten times her size has been amazing. She’s fearless, spirited, and surprisingly tough for such a small pup. She has settled into our home beautifully over the past few weeks. She’s smart, curious, and quick to learn, and she’s already become an important part of our family. Our other two dogs adore her, and the harmony between all three speaks volumes about the temperament and early care she received. We are so grateful to Chuck and Gwen for giving Sandra Dee such a strong, healthy, and confident start in life. The weekly Pupdates, short videos of our pup, were a wonderful surprise and we could see our girl grow over the weeks before coming home. If you’re looking for a Cairn Terrier with personality, heart, and a great foundation, we highly recommend them.

We are so happy with our experience of finding Chuck from Dachshunds Up North through Good Dog. Everything went very well from the beginning of our contact with him to picking up our precious Lucy Lou. We would certainly recommend him to family and friends who would want to get a lovable and active miniature dachshund.
