Meet the breeder

I'm Chuck G., the breeder behind Dachshunds Up North located in Bigfork, MN. We are a small Family Breeder of Long Hair, Smooth, and Wire Dachshunds. In 2022, we added a trio of Cairn Terriers. Our dogs live a life of luxury. We strive to breed puppies with a laid-back personality and Disposition, and do everything on our power to set our pups up for a life of health and happiness with their forever familes.

Q. & A. with Chuck

  • Why did you start breeding?

We got into Breeding for the love of Dachshunds. We have been breeding for 30 years, and every day is a Joy for us.
  • What makes your program special?

Our dogs live in our home and are very socialized and loved on! We also are a firm believer in a daily wafer to each of our dogs of Nuvet. Here is a link for you and if link is followed we can track who and how often our puppy's get Nuvet. As long as they get it daily and you follow our recommendations on spay/neutering, we extend our warranty from 1 year to 3 years. That is how much faith we have in Nuvet. https://1drv.ms/w/s!AuiPAtYdpyGCgZILN1u2_9DR2j3T9A?e=g3Lebv
  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

Dachshund puppies include miniature and standard sizes. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

Dachshund puppies include wirehaired, smooth, and longhaired coat varieties. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our Cairn Terrier puppies include silver brindle, wheaten, red wheaten, and brindle. Dachshund puppies include piebald, cream, red, black, chocolate, brindle, fawn (isabella) and tan, chocolate and tan, chocolate and cream, blue and tan, blue and cream, black and cream, and dapple. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

“The price includes, Vet health check, First three sets of shots, Microchip, Lifetime Support from us, our Health Guarantee, 30 days prepaid pet insurance through Trupanion and a New Family gift bag. PLEASE Remember until your wait list fee is in our accounts your pick of a puppy is NOT reserved. The amount is 200.00, Non refundable, for your puppy. When the litter is born if there is not a puppy of your liking the wait list fee may be transferred to any available puppy or upcoming litters. This is best way to get a puppy from a litter. We will only take up to 4 reservations for each litter. Only reason a paid family would not get a puppy is if they choose to wait. For such reasons as wrong color, all boys and they wanted a girl. or 1 boy 3 girls and a person wanting a boy that was ahead of that person. We will go by order paid and date of application. At 2-3 weeks after birth we will send or post pictures of the litter. Family with 1st pick will make their pick. Then family two will be notified, and they will make their pick, and so on. Once notified you have 48hours to make your pick. If not your spot is given to next in line and you go to last spot. If no reply with in 2 weeks you loose your spot on the litter completely. If it happens twice then you will forfeit your wait list fee.”

Chuck and Gwen were incredible to work with!! Our sweet girl Lemon came well house trained and exposed to so many things (I.e cars, people, etc). We could tell she was very well cared for. We also LOVED the weekly updates and quick communication. They do everything they advertise! We couldn’t be happier with our puppy and Dachshunds Up North!🤩

We had such a wonderful experience working with Chuck as our breeder. From the very beginning, he was incredibly easy to work with and made the entire process smooth and enjoyable. His communication was outstanding. He kept us updated every step of the way, and we especially loved the weekly Wednesday videos. It meant so much to be able to watch our puppy grow and see his personality develop before we were able to bring him home. Chuck is extremely knowledgeable about his puppies, and it really shows in the care, attention, and love he puts into raising them. He took the time to answer all of our questions and made us feel confident and prepared as new puppy owners. And of course, our puppy is absolutely gorgeous! Everywhere we go, we get stopped multiple times by people wanting to pet him and asking about him. We constantly get compliments on how beautiful and unique his coloring is. We couldn’t be happier with our experience and would highly recommend Chuck to anyone looking for a well-loved, well-raised puppy.

We had never had a mini dachshund before and wanted to find a knowledgeable breeder. We worked with Chuck and Gwen and were so happy with our choice. Forrest (now Pepper) is so adorable and snuggly and we love him so much.

Chuck and Gwen were so responsive and great to work with! Very kind whenever I had any questions, and I looked forward to Weiner Wednesday's. Our pup Poncho is settling in so well, potty trained so quickly, and has an amazing temperament.

Chuck and Gwen were the best throughout this whole process. They sent us weekly updates to see our little pup grow each week and answered every single question that we had. They are so knowledgeable about everything dachshund related and I recommend using them to find your pup!
