I'm Leigh B., the breeder behind Dan River Dachshunds located in Madison, NC. We raise beautiful long haired miniature dachshunds in our home. Our dogs are bred for health and temperament with a focus on conformation, athleticism, and intelligence. We are dedicated to providing our families with wonderful family pets.

  • Why did you start breeding?

    The breeder of my 5th dachshund let me help with litters and I loved it! I started breeding her and that’s how Dan River Dachshunds came to be
  • What makes your program special?

    We focus on health, nutrition and confirmation. All of our dogs live in our home and are a part of our family. Our babies are born into our hands and raised with love in our home and socialized with our pack, family and children and are introduced to a variety of sounds and situations. Our goal is to produce happy, healthy and well balanced pets for your family.
  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

    Our puppies are miniature size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

    Our puppies include cream, red, chocolate and tan, black and tan, and dapple. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Getting a puppy from Leigh

Price

Puppy prices include between $2,500 - $3,000 final payment, before taxes & fees.

“Our puppies are AKC and both parents have had all genetic and OFA health testing and CHIC certification recommended by the AKC and The Dachshund Club of America. They will go home with a complete vet check, microchip, and all age appropriate dewormings and vaccinations, 30 days of free pet insurance as well as a bag of toys, treats, food and blanket with mom’s scent to ease transition.”

This helps protect both you and your breeder, ensuring that you both have a clear understanding of the terms of your puppy purchase.   • Eye Examination (rDVM, not registered with OFA), Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)

    Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.

  • Cardiac Evaluation (rDVM, not registered with OFA)

    Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.

  • Patellar Luxation

    Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.

  • Vet Wellness Exam

    A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
