Kayla and Dave D.
Almost 7 weeks old and the weather has been holding up enough for the puppies to have lots of outside time! Litter box accuracy is improving. Energy level is through the roof. They are definitely about ready for the one on one time that comes with going to their forever homes! Personalities are blossoming and socialization is happening daily!

Chip and Marbles's litter

Kayla and Dave D.
The pups are five weeks old today! They are strong, getting very mobile, and are quite playful. Many of them have found their voices and love to use them! Nursing has been reduced to two sessions a day. Pups have moved on from puppy mush to soaked puppy kibble. The weather has been holding up nicely so we had some exploration time outside as well as socialization with adult dogs. Everyone seemed to enjoy that! We’ve also had socialization with children, adults from other houses, and we met our first babies. Everyone has had several table grooming sessions, where we practice touching ears, checking teeth, touching paws, and trimming nails. Everyone tolerates it very well. Litter box training is in full swing! The puppies are doing great with solid waste. Hitting mark about 80% of the time. Liquid waste is about 50% but it will improve in the coming weeks. We have a great litter here. Lots of great personalities are forming. We love them all!

Chip and Marbles's litter

Kayla and Dave D.
The puppies are nearly 4 weeks old now! They’ve been introduced to the playpen in the living room, the litter box, some new toys, the cushy bed, and even got to go outside for a few minutes! They are getting their legs under them and definitely finding their voices! Everyone is strong and growing. First worming is coming up this weekend and introduction to solid food in the next week or so.

Chip and Marbles's litter

Kayla and Dave D.
We have developed so much in the last two weeks! We have completed our early neurological stimulation and early scent introduction. We have had our nails trimmed multiple times and are getting lots of handling. Mama still spends most of her time with us and we eat soooo much!!

Chip and Marbles's litter

Kayla and Dave D.
The puppies have had a great week of exploring! The weather warmed up a little and we went outside to get some good sniffs and a few pictures and videos. Everyone enjoyed their experience of interacting with the adult dogs in the house. They will learn important lessons about dog communication during those interactions. Weaning is going well! The puppies still prefer their food softened but we are working our way up! Everyone weighs about 35 ounces now. We expect most will be near 3 lbs (give or take) when they go home in a few weeks. This is a very happy go lucky litter. They have been a blessing to our household and we know each one of them will bring joy to the families they will soon join!

Chip and Pockets's litter

Kayla and Dave D.
These babies have had a big week! Everyone has their teeth and had their first taste of solid food. They still prefer their mama’s milk but as that supply dwindles they will be relying more on the puppy chow. They will be eating dry kibble by pick up! The puppies got to interact with other dogs from the home (through the playpen). They seem very social and excited to play. Litter box training is progressing. Pups are defecating in the box about 90% of the time already. Urination location takes a little longer to master but some are getting the hang of that. Puppy enrichment and exposure to household noises is ongoing. They already seem un phased by loud noises such as the vacuum or the adult dogs barking. (As you’ll hear Dave in the video saying “Look at them!” In excitement as they come to greet the vacuum rather than running away). The puppies also had their first worming this week. (2 more before they head home) They didn’t care much for the medicine but tolerated it. As you can see from the video they are getting so playful and vocal! A couple of them have hit the 2 pound mark and the others are only an ounce behind. Although weaning has slowed down their growth a bit as we transition. They are a wonderful litter! We love seeing their progress and watching their unique personalities develop. We will update photos again this weekend.

Chip and Pockets's litter

Kayla and Dave D.
The pups had their first trip to the living room playpen today. They were apprehensive of the new smells and sights but they will grow to love it. Everyone has their legs under them now, teeth are starting to come in and they are wrestling with each other! Weights are ranging from 23 to 25 ounces today.

Chip and Pockets's litter

Kayla and Dave D.
The pups are two weeks old today and everyone is thriving! Several pups are over a pound now and “Brother” has increased his weight by 4 times his birth weight! At this point they have had multiple nail trims and have completed their scent introduction and ENS. “Brother” also has both of his eyes open and the rest should follow shortly behind. A few days after that the puppies ears will open and they will be able to experience the world with all of their senses for the first time!! Big developments are headed our way in the coming weeks!!

Chip and Pockets's litter

Kayla and Dave D.
The puppies are doing great in their first week of life! Everyone is growing rapidly and have all almost doubled their weight since birth 2/15/25. We have started Early Neurological Stimulation and Early Scent Introduction and are tracking the results. We provide these results to the adopting families at the time of pick up. Photos will be updated 2/23!

About Chip
Chip is the happy-go-lucky dog in our household. He loves everything and everyone. He is very energetic and is the fastest runner we own. Chip loves to bark at animals when they come on TV, to burrow deeply in his blankets and to stand on his hind legs for a better sniff of whatever is cooking. Nothing much bothers Chip. He likes to get pets from anyone passing by the yard. He loves children and insists we find them whenever he hears their voices in Home Depot or at the park. He is best friends with our now 5 year old nephew and 2 year old niece. He was the least mischievous puppy out of our four. He is smart and will obey so long as there is a reward. He has his AKC All Star puppy certificate. Chip always wants to be on a lap. He isn’t too picky on whose lap it is. He has a low prey drive when it comes to animals and isn’t too concerned with hunting rats or chasing cats. He has met bunnies, cats, rats, goats, a calf and piglets and approaches all with curiosity and sometimes kisses. He does however like to chase the teaser pole and play tug of war. I think he just has a gentle soul when it comes to other living things.

About Pockets
Pockets is a highly energetic dog with personality for days! She loves chatting when you talk to her and will do anything for a biscuit. Pockets has a high prey drive and even though she is the chonkiest dog we have, she has the most stamina. Pockets was easily crate trained but was our most mischievous as a puppy. Pockets also loves to cuddle with me while I read. She likes to be held belly up and have her tummy scratched. She has the funniest facial expressions and has absolutely mastered the side eye.

About Marbles
Marbles is a black and tan visual piebald but is technically a cryptic merle (dapple). Marbles is a sweet girl full of cuddles and kisses. She makes soft grunts when getting pets and loves to roll around on her toys. She is hyper aware and will notice even the smallest change to the household and point it out to us. She, without encouragement or training, indicated that we had a mouse living in our unused wall heater by barking and nipping at it until my husband disassembled it and found the nest. Since then she was signed up for her first earth dog trial fall of 2022. The judge stated that she needed training but is a natural. So we practiced at home, went to a test site practice and a few more trials. We are happy to report Marbles passed the AKC Earth dog event “Introduction to Quarry” twice and currently has her first qualifying leg of her “Novice Earth Dog” title. Marbles bonds heavily to one person (my husband) and chooses carefully who may pet her. She is very smart and easily trainable. Potty training and crate training were a breeze for her and she aims to please both my husband and myself.

Kayla was an amazing breeder. She was so knowledgeable about the breed. She sent fantastic updates about our puppy and made sure the pup was desensitized to loud noises, grooming routines, etc.

Kayla was amazing to deal with. She answered any and all questions I had and continues to do so. She was so gracious and sent Pumpernickel home with food, treats, potty pads, a blanket, toys and a folder of thorough paperwork. Her dogs are healthy, obviously well loved and beautiful.

I was initially hesitant due to the number of scammers out there, but Kayla quickly eased my concerns. She was more than willing to FaceTime with me, answer all my questions, and interact to ensure that this was a legitimate transaction. Her transparency and kindness made the entire process smooth and stress-free. Kayla and Dave clearly care deeply about their dachshunds, and it shows in the way they handle everything with professionalism and genuine love for their dogs. It was a truly positive experience from start to finish. I highly recommend Daweshunds to anyone looking for a well-cared-for and loving dachshund! I am highly satisfied and beyond grateful for my new furry family member. Rin’s mom, Michelle

Kayla was beyond amazing! Every question and concern I had she responded back to in a timely manner. She also sent me plenty of video and picture updates that I could enjoy as I waited to pick up my pup. The day of the pickup she had put together a nice goodie bag for us which included a blanket with Vienna’s siblings scent on it. This made the transition to our home and bed time for her much easier. Me and my wife love the new addition to our family and she gets along with our older dog perfectly. 10/10 Highly Recommend!!!

My experience with Daweshunds could not have possibly been better! Kayla and Dave are amazing people who truly care about their animals and the breed itself. Not only were they super responsive throughout the whole process, but the care, socialization, and training they do with the pups is so helpful! This is the first time I've ever gone through a breeder, so I wanted to make sure I found someone who had their animals health and happiness in mind- with Daweshunds I hit the jackpot! I will be forever thankful towards these wonderful people!
