Meet the breeder

I'm Kala S., the breeder behind Desert Oasis Kennels located in Soap Lake, WA. We put a focus on health and work-ability. We feel work-ability and drive have been struggling in both of our breeds. A working dog is a happy dog. We choose our breeding dogs based on health, temperament, and drive. We know that all dogs have faults and we work to correct those.

Q. & A. with Kala

  • Why did you start breeding?

We got into this program when I got my first Chesapeake, I'd always heard they had bad attitudes. The male we had was amazing, he was a superb example of what the breed should be so we decided we wanted to reproduce that.
  • What makes your program special?

We are trying to save our breeds. We look for lines that are original in conformation and workability. We don't look just for titles but for dogs that produce sound temperaments and working puppies. We offer full registration and guidance to our buyers to help build their kennel. Because it isn't a competition it's a labor of love.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include tan, light deadgrass, dark deadgrass, dark brown, light brown, deadgrass, brown, and sedge. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.
