I'm Kevin L., the breeder behind Die Nassen Baerte located in Thurmont, MD. We hold ourselves to high standards. All of our puppies are socialized, nurtured, and loved! Our breeding program started with one small litter that turned into a fulfilling, lifelong passion! We believe there’s no greater joy than providing families with loving companions.

Why did you start breeding?
As a second generation dog breeder, I grew up raising Basset Hounds and Labrador Retrievers. This taught me the foundation of what I know today. I started in AKC events as a Junior Handler and briefly handled client dogs professionally before taking a hiatus. Since returning 20 years ago, I have dedicated myself to the Schnauzers and Pinschers. I am also an AKC dog show judge.What makes your program special?
Die Nassen Bärte is special because of its focus on preservation. We are also one of the few breeders in the US who will give puppy buyers the option of leaving their Schnauzer puppy undocked.What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Standard Schnauzer puppies are black. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.Where do your breeding dogs live?

Getting a puppy from Kevin
Kevin has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.
After buyers complete the application and screening process, Kevin partners with them to find the best puppy match.
“ Homes that will commit to AKC sports will receive priority placement. Because we breed for a specific purpose, you will not be able to pick your puppy from our litter. Please tell us as much as possible about yourself, your family, your home, hobbies, and what activities you plan to engage in with your puppy. This will help us to match the puppy and their temperament for a good fit. We have a very good track record using this method of matching puppies with buyers. ”

“Prices vary depending on Breed and age of puppy or dog. $1500 deposit required to secure a place on our wait list upon approval of your application. Only applies when we are expecting puppies.”

About Abigail
Abigail is our ideal for Standard Schnauzer breed type. She runs around our farm for hours at a time, chasing squirrels and foxes and warding off strangers. If she wasn't built right for the purpose, she would not endure that much activity. Her coat is what a Schnauzer should have - tight, hard, and wiry; and it is relatively maintenance free, requiring very little maintenance - a groomer's dream and an owner's delight.

About Frank
Frank is a personable, loving dog. He was the FIRST all-natural Black Standard Schnauzer bred in the United States to achieve the AKC Champion title. His mother was the first all-natural Black Standard Schnauzer to receive the Champion title at all! So we are very proud of his lineage. He is gentle while being very strong and powerful for his size - the epitome of a robust Standard Schnauzer capable of working on the farm as an all-purpose utility dog.

Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA), Cardiac Evaluation (rDVM, not registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
DNA Disease Panel
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
