Meet the breeder

I'm Curtis and Colleen S., the breeder behind Double4farms located in Ashford, AL. Our puppies become integral members of our family while building confidence with us as they prepare for transition to their forever homes. They’re a daily part of everything we do using the Puppy Culture, (ENS) and receive (ESI) Early Scent Introduction daily for first from 3 to 16 days of life. They will continue with Puppy Culture until they’re ready to join their forever families. All of our adult dogs live in the house with us and live their best lives on a small five acre homestead where they coexist with barn cats, Nigerian Dwarf goats, and a large flock of free range chickens that produce farm fresh eggs. Our Border Collies all have a mix of excellent traits that give us the ability to find them a wide range of homes and environments they can thrive in.

Q. & A. with Curtis and Colleen

  • Why did you start breeding?

We are just starting our adventure into breeding Border Collies. We have discussed it for years and patiently waited for our children to grow up and for the right combination of dogs to further some excellent bloodlines. We love our border collies and they all three reside with us in our home and are treated like family.
  • What makes your program special?

Our high drive dame, River, comes from a proven line of agility dogs and has shown excellent intelligence and herding instincts. Her uncle, Sagehill's Graphite, is a 6 times National Agility Champion, and 3 time World Agility team member. Our Sire, Mojo, is the nephew of Tribute, who won 2nd place in agility at the UKI US Open! Our second dame, Luna, comes from a long line of show Champions and Grand Champions, but also has excellent frisbee and ball drive.
  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

Our puppies have rough coats. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include black and white, white and blue, white and red, and white and gold. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Getting a puppy from Curtis and Colleen

Curtis and Colleen has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

Curtis and Colleen partners with buyers to find the best match as the puppies develop and their personalities take shape. Typically, matches are finalized when the puppies reach about 6 weeks old.

“How Puppy Selection Works; at Double 4 Farms, we use a waitlist-based selection process to ensure each puppy is matched with the right home. Once your application is approved, you are placed on our active litter waiting list. Families select puppies in order of approval, not based on website availability. After puppies are born, we stay in close contact with families at the top of the list regarding genders, personalities, and overall development. Around 4–6 weeks of age, when temperaments become more clear, families are invited (in order) to choose their puppy and place a reservation deposit. We do allow the those at the top of the list to reserve early if they are sure of the puppy they want before 4-6 weeks. We do not encourage it, but we do allow it if there is no doubt to the puppy they want. For instance, if there is only 1 male in a litter and the 1st person on the list knows beyond a doubt they want a male from that particular litter, there is no point in leaving the puppy available. Once reserved, you’ll receive regular updates, photos, and progress reports until your puppy goes home. Understanding “Available” Puppies designation; Puppies marked as “available” on Good Dog may already be spoken for by families ahead of you on the waitlist and are not reserved or removed until a deposit is placed. A particular puppy showing as available can be selected by others before your turn comes up. Because of this, we encourage families to remain open to multiple puppies within a litter rather than focusing on one specific puppy.”

Price

Puppy prices include a $400 non-refundable deposit and between $2,100 - $2,600 final payment, before taxes & fees.

“Price includes registration, first round of shots, deworming. and a vet health checkup. All puppies also go home with a sample of their food, a blanket with mom's scent, a toy, and vet records. Deposits on all puppies are $400.00 regardless of puppy price and the deposit is applied to the total cost of the puppy. After a deposit is made, that puppy's availability is removed from the public and after a week becomes non-refundable for any reason.”

From my very first inquiry, their communication was prompt, detailed and reassuring. They truly prioritize the well-being od their dogs. Their website is well-maintained and helped me get better insight into their breeding program. Once the litter arrived, the updates were consistent. They do a great job of giving these dogs a great start to life and early development. Very happy with my new puppy.

I couldn’t be happier with my Border Collie puppy, Mollye, from Colleen and Curtis! She’s smart, sweet, and full of personality — clearly raised with love and care. Colleen and Curtis were wonderful throughout the entire process, and it’s obvious they’re passionate about what they do. I’m so grateful to have found them!

Rowan is everything I hoped for and just as Curtis and Colleen described. He is a devoted partner, incredibly expressive and intelligent, and easily trained. He loves agility and is always ready to go but can easily turn it off when done. I highly recommend Double4farms if you are looking to add a Boarder Collie to your family. They are very knowledgeable of the breed and are always there to answer questions.
