Meet the breeder

I'm Kimberly C., the breeder behind Dovehawk Australian Shepherds located in Tijeras, NM. Our dogs are extensively health tested per breed requirements (CHIC), plus additional testing is done including full Color & Health panel testing, Thyroid, Heart, Dentition, etc.. They all live in our home with full run of our fully fenced 5 acres. We do conformation, and a variety of performance and sports with our dogs. We like to keep in mind these are working dogs first but have a nice off switch to hang out and watch TV in the evening.

Q. & A. with Kimberly

  • Why did you start breeding?

I worked for a Show breeder of Alaskan Malamutes and received my first show dog in 2004, an Alaskan Malamute who quickly achieved his AKC Championship. I then was introduced to an Australian Shepherd that frequented work with his owners who was also a show dog, I quickly fell in love with his personality and looks, it was not much longer after that I got my first Aussie and started showing and focusing on the breed specifically.
  • What makes your program special?

We focus on health, temperament, and versatility. We want dogs that are still able to do what they were originally bred for with a good off switch and compatible with living a pedestrian lifestyle. Our goal is to preserve the breed as preservation breeders.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include red & white, black & white, red merle, blue merle, black tri-color, and red tri-color. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Getting a puppy from Kimberly

Kimberly has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

Kimberly partners with buyers to find the best match as the puppies develop and their personalities take shape. Typically, matches are finalized when the puppies reach about 8 weeks old.

“While we do our best to accommodate sex and color preferences, We make our matches primarily based upon the temperament and energy level of the puppy and expectations and environment of potential owners. We try to accommodate color/sex requests but cannot make guarantees until evaluations are completed after 8-10 weeks. Puppy placements are NOT made on a first come first serve bases. The puppy is placed on best fit. Many factors are involved in making these decisions (personality /energy level etc) Our first priority is to match the puppy with the right family. Deposits will be returned if we do not have a puppy that we feel fit the family.”
