Meet the breeder

I'm Ryan G., the breeder behind Drunken Bear Ranch located in Grantham, NH. Purpose-bred Labrador Retrievers raised in our home for hunting, hunt tests, and active families. Puppies receive daily handling, Early Neurological Stimulation, socialization, bird exposure, retrieving experience, and foundational training through the Pat Nolan Pup and Up Program.

Q. & A. with Ryan

  • Why did you start breeding?

My interest in dog training grew directly from hunting. I wanted a retriever that could be trusted in the field, handle real hunting conditions, and still be a solid family dog at home. That pursuit developed into a serious commitment to training, testing, and raising capable Labrador Retrievers.
  • What makes your program special?

Our breeding program is built around proven working ability, sound temperament, trainability, and versatility. We select dogs with strong hunting pedigrees and natural ability, then raise each litter in our home with early socialization, bird exposure, and structured foundational training.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and guardian homes.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)

Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • Vet Wellness Exam

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • DNA Disease Panel, Centronuclear Myopathy (CNM), Exercise Induced Collapse (EIC), PRA, Rod-Cone Degeneration (PRA-prcd), D Locus (Dilute) DNA test
