I'm Virginia S., the breeder behind Enlia Shelties located in Wiggins, CO. We show in conformation, obedience and rally. I strive to produce dogs that adhere to the AKC standard. All of my dogs come from fully health tested parents. We start them off with early neurological stimulation and socialization so they can go on to be loving, intelligent companions.
Q. & A. with Virginia
Why did you start breeding?
We got our first sheltie for my daughter to show in 4h 13 years ago. We still have him. We then got our first show prospect 2 years later. After that we were hooked on showing in AKC. I bred my first litter after showing for 5 years so I could learn as much as possible.
What makes your program special?
I have worked hard to learn about the breed, correct structure, health and good breeding practices. We have many AKC champions as well as obedience and rally titles. We are a small kennel and all of my dogs are cherished pets first.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include blue merle white and tan, sable and white, blue merle and white, black white and tan, and black and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Excellent level
Enlia Shelties reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Shetland Sheepdogs.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
DNA Disease Panel, von Willebrand Disease III (vWD III), Dermatomyositis, Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA), Multiple Drug Sensitivity (MDR1)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
