Meet the breeder

I'm Alyssa W., the breeder behind Far Far Away Dachshunds located in Okeechobee, FL. My goal as a breeder is to produce healthy and structurally correct puppies in a variety of colors. My dogs and puppies are raised in my home. They are exposed to other animals and many noises before going home.

Q. & A. with Alyssa

  • Why did you start breeding?

Like most people who have dachshunds, shortly after I got my first one I needed a second. That's when I got my Hotdog. Breeding them wasn't even a thought until Hotdog went into heat. I have learned so much since then. Now all of my dogs are Embark tested and I am working towards getting all of my dog's OFAs completed.
  • What makes your program special?

I am a breeder that will back you up for life. Got a question at 3 am? I'll answer it. Ten years go by and you can't keep the puppy I sold to you anymore? I will take it back. I appreciate all and any updates. I truly want to know how my puppies are doing and it is also helpful for my program. I try my best to make confident puppies that will thrive in their new home.
  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

Our puppies are miniature size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

Our puppies include smooth and longhaired coat varieties. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include cream, red, brindle, chocolate and tan, blue and cream, blue and tan, black and tan, and black and cream. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

I got regular updates on Echo in the form of photos. I found that to be wonderful because it made me feel like I was getting to be part of her first weeks of life. Upon meeting with Alyssa I found her to be super knowledgeable, not just about this breed, but other breeds as well. After speaking with her at length during pick up, I walked away having learned something beyond my 33 years of experience with dogs, and 12 years experience with Dachshunds. I know that should something happen to me (and my parents are unable to care of Echo) she will have a forever home with Alyssa. This being my first time working with a breeder, I could not ask for a better experience. And should I decide to get another dachshund, I will be coming back to Far Far Away Dachshunds.
