Meet the breeder

I'm Lori S., the breeder behind Farmstead Aussies located in Cottage Grove, OR. We at Farmstead Aussies responsibly breed health-tested parents offering puppies who are less likely to have inherited diseases like hip dysplasia, bad elbows, and undesirable genetic diseases. Make an appointment to visit the farm and meet your new Aussie family member!

Q. & A. with Lori

  • Why did you start breeding?

My best friend, “Trixie” and I had 15 years of adventures together. The last half of her life she suffered from elbow issues, as my faithful shadow she had the want and drive to work and play but it hurt her too badly. Trixie inspired me to offer folks a puppy whose parents were fully health tested for hips, eyes, and elbows including DNA testing for inherent diseases.
  • What makes your program special?

Our goal is to produce healthy dogs with amazing temperaments whose parents have been fully health tested. We are dedicated advocates for proper breeding techniques.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include red & white, black & white, black, red merle, blue merle, red, black tri-color, and red tri-color. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Lori it’s an excellent breeder who is not just a breeder but is most concerned about making great partnerships between her kids and their new prospective people parents. She is the only one I have met who does behavior testing so you know just how much energy and patience you’ll need to devout to your new friend. She would absolutely be my first stop for any future Aussies!

Lori is a great dog breeder/lover. I could tell upon meeting Lori that she takes great care of her Aussie pups. Lori had all of my new puppy, Grace's, vet records organized and in a folder. Lori provided some new toys and a towel with Grace's litter mates aromas for us to go home with. I would definitely recommend buying an Aussie puppy from Lori, as she takes the utmost care in her young and old Aussie doggies.

Greta Grace Keith (aka Unity) We received her 2 days ago from Farmstead Aussies. The entire process, ably guided by Lori, was simple and rewarding. She also gave us a lesson in ‘leash training’ which was very helpful. Greta is very smart, picks up on things right away with little instruction. We were able to meet Greta‘s parents and play with Greta and her two brothers. Lori filled out all the paperwork, arranged for payment for Greta, and offered gifts and a blanket for Greta start in life with our family. She also rubbed a towel over Greta‘s brothers to give her sent she could recall as she ventures into the unknown with our family. Here at home, she quickly endeared herself to both of us, laying on our laps beside us on our chairs, and just exploring. She has two other dogs here, a little deer Chihuahua, Olivia, and a mixed breed Tessa with, which she started the family bonding experience. Tessa is about the size Greta will grow to. Interestingly enough, Tessa was more standoffish and nervous and Greta. Here we are only three days in and things are looking up – the two of them took turns playing with dog toys in front of each other – it’s a slow process, but they’ll be the best of friends soon. We cannot thank Lori-Farmstead Aussies-more for her kindness, patience, and thoroughness, and bringing Greta into our lives!

Lori was an incredible help to my wife and I as we adopted our first dog. We had plenty of questions that Lori patiently and thoroughly answered. She worked a lot with our Blaze to make sure that he would be ready for the transition to his new home. Blaze is already beloved by his many new cousins and friends.

We couldn't be happier that Faith has become part of our family. She's incredibly sweet, intelligent, and most importantly, healthy. From our very first communication with Lori, it was clear she has a deep love for Australian Shepherds and an encyclopedic knowledge of the breed. Thank you for providing such detailed information about Faith's personality and for giving us everything we needed to know. It was a perfect match; we don't know how we lived without Faith, she's family now.

Lori was great to meet and I kinda wish she was our nextdoor neighbor. Her dogs are beautiful and the pup we chose is a fantastic buddy for our older dog, who needed a playmate. It took us a few days to commit and Lori was friendly and responsive all along the way. Lori's very well organized and made the transaction go very smooth. We got a lot of good advice and now the pup's fast asleep on the floor behind me while I type this out on the kitchen island. She came with the name Hope and we decided to keep it since Hope is what we need.
