Q. & A. with La Pedra
Why did you start breeding?
I fell in love with this the Dogo Argentino bread 5 years ago. I researched the breed for 2 1/2 years before I decided to buy one. Once I owned I knew I wanted to preserve the breed the correct way. Breeding dogs takes time, patience, a great willingness to learn, the ability to be humble, and sometimes a little luck.
What makes your program special?
Our breeding's are thoughtfully planned to ensure they are free of health issues, and not closely related to other dogs in the area. The correct temperament, type, soundness, trainability will help ensure that they produce puppies that are well rounded and become valued family members ready for the field as a hunting companion, competitive showing, or obedience training, but most of all being a valued member of the family. Our breeding's are planned with the research of pedigrees and we choose a champion stud dog from Romania who will best compliment our girl. All litters are planned with a goal and purpose months or years in advance.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies are white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Great level
Fates Legacy Kennels reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Dogo Argentinos.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Cardiac Evaluation (rDVM, not registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Canine Good Citizen (CGC), Congenital Deafness (BAER, registered with OFA)
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
DNA Profile, DNA Disease Panel
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
