I'm Melanie L., the breeder behind FLYING L Dachshund Academy located in Purmela, TX. Devoted to raising healthy dachshunds with amazing temperments for family pets. Currently i am downsizing my program and have retired my dogs. At the moment I have one adult female and male so expecting just one more litter in the future.

  • Why did you start breeding?

    My first dachshund I got 18 years ago and everyone wanted a puppy from her but she was spayed. Aprox 8 years ago I decided I had the time, desire and resources to start a breeding program.

  • What makes your program special?

    My puppies are handled daily and raised in my home. I do have a building with AC/heat as sometimes I need to seperate them from the home. I am a small breeder so my adults and puppies gets personalized attention and care. 90 percent of my sales are from repeat buyers and referrals.

  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

    Our puppies are miniature size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.

  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

    Our puppies include smooth and longhaired coat varieties. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.

  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

    Our puppies include piebald, black, chocolate, brindle, black and tan, chocolate and tan, and dapple. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.

  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

Getting a puppy from Melanie

After buyers complete the application and screening process, Melanie partners with them to find the best puppy match.

Puppy prices include a $500 deposit and between $300 - $2,500 final payment, before taxes & fees.

“Prices vary due to limited, full registration. Size, sex and conformation of the puppy, colors and patterns. Deposits are refundable if the puppy you have chosen happens to get injured in my care or it does not pass vet health check (although I have never had that happen).”

  • Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA), Generalized, Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), Dachshund Type, Animal Genetics Panel, DNA Disease Panel

    Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
