I'm Elsa V., the breeder behind Furever Paws located in Lake Jackson, TX. All of our dogs are loved as family members. We cherish our puppies from birth up until they leave our arms to snuggle into yours! The sweet, loyal, and playful disposition of our dogs inspired us to begin responsibly breeding to expand the breed and share them with others.
Q. & A. with Elsa
Why did you start breeding?
I became involved in Yorkshire Terrier breeding due to my deep passion and love. My journey began when I got my first Yorkshire Terrier as a pet. I was captivated by their unique characteristics, intelligence, and charming personality. As I spent more time with my Yorkie, I became increasingly interested in the intricacies of responsible breeding.
I dedicated time to researching the breed standard, health considerations, and ethical breeding practices. Connecting with experienced breeders and joining relevant communities helped me gain valuable insights and knowledge. I wanted to contribute to the betterment of the breed by producing healthy, well-socialized puppies that embody the actual characteristics of Yorkshire Terriers.
Embarking on this breeding journey has been both rewarding and challenging. It requires continuous learning, dedication to the well-being of the dogs, and a commitment to responsible breeding practices. Ultimately, my goal is to share the joy and companionship that Yorkshire Terriers bring to families while maintaining the breed's integrity and health.
What makes your program special?
My breeding program is distinguished by several key principles and practices that set it apart:
1. Health Focus: The health and well-being of my Yorkshire Terriers are top priorities. I follow regular veterinary check-ups, vaccinations, and a commitment to preventive care contributes to the overall health of my breeding dogs and their offspring.
2. Ethical Breeding Practices: I adhere to ethical breeding standards, which means I prioritize the welfare of the dogs over profit. Responsible breeding involves the careful selection of breeding pairs based on health, temperament, and adherence to the breed standard. I avoid practices such as overbreeding and strive to contribute positively to the breed's overall health and genetic diversity.
3. Socialization and Environment: Puppies are raised in a nurturing and stimulating environment. They are exposed to various stimuli, experiences, and social interactions from an early age to promote healthy development and well-adjusted behavior. This early socialization contributes to the puppies' adaptability in their new homes.
4. Transparency: I believe in open and honest communication with potential buyers. I provide detailed information about the lineage, health history, and any relevant certifications of the breeding dogs. Transparency extends to the entire breeding process, from the initial pairing to the rearing of the puppies.
5. Lifetime Support: The relationship with new puppy owners doesn't end with the adoption. I offer ongoing support and guidance, helping families navigate the challenges of puppyhood and beyond. This commitment ensures the well-being of the dogs throughout their lives.
6. Continuous Education: I stay informed about the latest developments in veterinary care, breeding practices, and any advancements in understanding the Yorkshire Terrier breed. This commitment to ongoing education helps me continually improve my breeding program.
In essence, my breeding program is characterized by a holistic approach that prioritizes the dogs' health, well-being, and happiness and fosters positive relationships with the families who welcome them into their homes.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include black and tan, blue and gold, and black and gold. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.
