I'm Katie T., the breeder behind Glenlake Australian Shepherds located in Shelbyville, KY. We are active AKC and ASCA conformation exhibitors and an AKC Breeder of Merit. Our goal is to provide healthy, happy, sound puppies to loving homes that treat their dogs as members of the family.
Q. & A. with Katie
Why did you start breeding?
My love of Aussies began when I was a young girl. My parents began the search for the perfect dog for our family. We found our first Aussie in 1997, a beautiful red tri named, Holly. Since then, we have been owned by numerous Australian Shepherds, all of which hold a special place in our hearts.
What makes your program special?
Our dogs have beauty and brains. Since we are a very small hobby breeder, and our primary purpose in breeding is to improve our own program, each of our puppies receives the individual attention they deserve. The parents of our litters have all received appropriate health testing specific to the Australian Shepherd in addition to obtaining their AKC and/or ASCA championships.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include black, red merle, blue merle, and red. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
PawPrint Genetic Panel (Breed Specific)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
