Meet the breeder

I'm Meghan C., the breeder behind Gochee Labs located in Sherrard, IL. Please go to our site to apply for a puppy! We have always held the position if you do something, do it right, or don't do it at all. For breeding, this means the short and long-term health of our puppies is top priority. This refrains us from breeding designer labs, such as mini or dilutes. We also do extensive health testing including OFA hips, elbows, cardiac, eyes and a full DNA prior to breeding. We also raise our puppies in our home following Puppy Culture, Empowered Breeder & Avidog.

Q. & A. with Meghan

  • Why did you start breeding?

When we were well into our homeschooling journey with our 3 daughters, they started discussing “what I want to be when I grow up.” Our oldest expressed an interest in breeding Labs. It is the family’s favorite breed, after all. After extensive research, we decided it would be a great opportunity to teach them small business management, work ethics, morals, economics, public relations, advertising and much more. Now, 12 years later, I (Meghan), the oldest daughter, have fully taken over breeding and raising labs with my husband. I am a graduate of the Karen Pryor Dog Training Academy (KPA-CTP) and love raising & training our Labs!
  • What makes your program special?

We are one of few breeders that fully health tests (especially cardiac) and raises our puppies and adult dogs in our home in an enriching environment! From the time mom is ready to deliver, all the way through the crate and potty training phase, we can be found sleeping right next to mom and the puppies so we are readily available. I am lucky enough to have a work from home job, so the puppies receive constant attention throughout the day, along with their daily Puppy Culture training. Our adult dogs each receive daily individual training and can be found snoozing around the house the rest of the day!
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include black, chocolate, and yellow. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Meghan was responsive and I can tell she is a very passionate and knowledgeable breeder. Our puppy who we named Rocky is super cute and affectionate and is best friends with our other lab, Dolly.
