Meet the breeder
I'm Kelcy H., the breeder behind Grazing Weeners located in Lakeland, FL. Our dogs are raised in a loving home on a 3 acre homestead, and spend each day hunting lizards, herding chickens, and basking in the sun. We crate train them and socialize them by traveling to baseball tournaments and rodeos across the state. Manners are a top priority as far as training goes. We only breed confident and charismatic dogs. Some will be shown, but title or not our dogs will represent the breed well, which the American Kennel Club (AKC) considers as low to the ground, long in body, and short of leg, with a robust muscular development and an alert, intelligent expression. Dachshunds are bred to hunt badgers and other underground game, so we try to raise they in an environment that allows their natural instincts to thrive. Our AKC-registered Dachshunds are bred for calm, confident temperaments and correct conformation. Our six females combine American and imported bloodlines and are lovingly raised on our farm, well-socialized for family life with people, places, and animals.

Why did you start breeding?
I started breeding Dachsunds when I met my husband. I still had two retired JRT's, and when I met his dachshund I fell in love and realized they are the same breed, except a dachshund is more loyal and loving. I had a mentor and decided to learn the breed inside and out and work to produce top quality dogs in central Florida.What makes your program special?
Our faith and dedication set us apart. We have a small group of breeding females, and do not operate as a kennel. We live our life with our dogs involved and nurture every individual puppy so they have successful transfers to new families, and our buyers get an exceptional experience and education through the purchase process. We align the right pup with the right home, and do not settle simply for color or gender selection.What are the different breed sizes in your program?

Our puppies include wirehaired, smooth, and longhaired coat varieties. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include cream, wild boar, chocolate and tan, black and tan, black and cream, and dapple. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.Where do your breeding dogs live?

After buyers complete the application and screening process, Kelcy partners with them to find the best puppy match.

“Health Certificate to prove vaccinations, deworming, and exam. A bag including samples of food and vitamin regimen, a measuring cup for food, a can food lid, blanket or bed, toys, and treats. Deposits hold a specific puppy once a decision has been made.”

Graycie is our most laid back and loving mama. This is her first litter, and she has exceeded expectations in delivery and nurturing her pups. She is our "least loyal" because she has never met a stranger and she considers eye contact true love. She would go home with someone new in a heart beat for good snuggles. She has normal OFA for cardiac and patella. She is embark tested and a PRA carrier.

Hip Dysplasia (rDVM, not registered)
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia (rDVM, not registered)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Eye Examination (rDVM, not registered with OFA), Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Cardiac Evaluation (rDVM, not registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Patellar Luxation
Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.
Vet Wellness Exam
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
DNA Disease Panel
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
