Meet the breeder

I'm Karen M., the breeder behind Great Lakes Mi-Kis located in Portage, IN. Ethical breeding for all of our dogs is done by first researching the pedigrees, following OFA health test recommendations, and looking at the genetics of each adult Mi-Ki and puppy. We take great pride in representing the "Sweetheart of the Companion" breed to pet approved families.

Q. & A. with Karen

  • Why did you start breeding?

I understand how amazing these dogs are and what great companions they can be. I recognized their ability to help me and want to be able to provide that for others. Many of my puppies have gone on to be therapy dogs. They're so loyal, beautiful, and have a great temperament, how could you not love them? It would be my pleasure to introduce you to the next member of your family!
  • What makes your program special?

My program is special because of the individual love and care I put into each of my puppies. I make sure to provide lots of enrichment and socialization so that they can succeed in any environment. While I know that not every pup in each litter will grow up to become a therapy dog, I am confident that each one will become a treasured family member! My priority is quality over quantity.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.
