I'm Katie H., the breeder behind Grizzly Goldens located in Missoula, MT. Our focus is on raising high-quality Golden Retriever companions that are confident and well-adjusted prior to going to their new homes. The health and well-being of our sires, dams, and pups are top priority. We endeavor to not only do health testing, but pay attention to keeping the COI score low.

Why did you start breeding?
I grew up with Goldens being in the center of our lives with my brother participating in field trials and breeding his Golden after completing health tests in 2003. From the beginning, I learned about the importance of improving upon the breed and being mentored by those responsible breeders who take precautions before breeding and who give all the love to their sires and dams.What makes your program special?
The amount of individual time and careful evaluation given to each puppy to set him/her up for success is what makes my program special. We also offer Lifetime Breeder Support to all our clients and encourage everyone to contact us with any and all questions or concerns. Our focus on health and temperament first also gives our clients extra confidence in their choice.What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include dark golden, golden, and light golden. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

"Grizzly Kennel puppies come with first vaccines, deworming, a wellness exam with our vet, AKC registration application, a health guarantee, and a puppy packet of all those items your puppy needs. . Deposits can be refundable if the breeding wasn’t successful or if there were not enough puppies in the gender you reserved."

About Griz
Griz is secure in the dog he is. He doesn’t need to prove a point, he just is a little Prince Charming. He is such a hunk. Although not a big and tall golden, he is right in the middle of the breed standard and has larger bones, blocky head and beautiful coat with nice feathering. His babies are little fur-balls. Griz is affectionate, great with children and quiet. He also has a goofy, fun side that will make you laugh and definitely has the retriever instincts. You’ll often see him carrying something around in his mouth We adore him!

Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
