Meet the breeder

I'm Lauren W., the breeder behind Hazelwood Border Collies located in Pullman, WA. We are a small kennel focusing on improving conformation while maintaining working ability. The Border Collie is a fantastic all-around sport dog. We aim to produce dogs that can excel wherever they end up, whether that be as an active pet, show, working, or sport home.

Q. & A. with Lauren

  • Why did you start breeding?

I have always loved genetics and have always had a desire to breed, show, and trial Border Collies. While working in a vet clinic, it quickly became apparent that many health and temperament problems were the result of poor breeding practices. It is my goal to improve the Border Collies breed as a whole to create happy, healthy dogs with solid temperaments.
  • What makes your program special?

The versatility of the Border Collie is what initially drew me to the breed. They are the ultimate herding dog, but they also succeed at anything you ask them to do. There is a divide developing between show, sport, and working line Border Collies. I aim to produce a dog that will be successful at its original purpose, herding, but also competitive in the show and sport rings.
  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

Our puppies have rough coats. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include tri-color, black and white, lilac, white and blue, and white and red. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.
