Q. & A. with Martin

  • Why did you start breeding?

I started to look for replacements for my stock dogs, and could not find anything that fit the bill. So I started on a quest to produce an awesome Border Collie myself.
  • What makes your program special?

My goal is to raise the best dog ever to join your family. They are willing to work for you, love to play with you, able to shut it down and hangout with you. Our dogs are easy on the eyes and athletic enough for any game. We put an emphasis on temperament so everyone is comfortable around them.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

Great level

HC Kennels reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Border Collies.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Brucellosis

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • Optimal Selection Canine Genetic Breeding Analysis, PawPrint Genetic Panel (Breed Specific)

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
