Meet the breeder

I'm Alyce N., the breeder behind Herd That Farms located in Erwin, NC. We are lifelong dog enthusiasts, and we’re excited to share our passion and purpose with others through our breeding program. Each of our dogs has brought so much happiness to us throughout their lives. We want to do our part to produce wonderful, healthy dogs that can bring other people joy.

Q. & A. with Alyce

  • Why did you start breeding?

Herd That Farms is a Border Collie breeder based in Erwin, NC with our second farm being located in Robbins, NC. Our story began when an 18 year old girl wanted to get her father, who had recently been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer, the border collie he always wanted. This little pup (Oakley May) was our biggest blessing in disguise.  She gave him purpose in his last 2 years with us and she served as his therapy and emotional support dog. She was so much more than the "dog he always wanted". She was the joy that we so desperately needed in our most trying times. The impact she had, and still has, on our family formed my deep love and passion for the Border Collie. I have been breeding these amazing dogs since 2019 and have been fortunate enough to be mentored by some of the most experienced border collie breeders around.

Herd That Farms were very responsive and helpful throughout the process of purchasing, transfer, and support of our new Border Collie. I visited the family farm and was impressed at how clean the pens were. There were three that were kept spotless. The parents of the puppies were extremely happy roaming the farm and they were obviously loved and cared for. I especially appreciated Alyce's gentle care, as well as her meticulous record keeping of all her puppies. I truly felt good about buying from her. I met her husband Adam and he was just as kind, warm, and loving to the pups, not to mention both offered their thoughtful hospitality. You can be assured that her pups are healthy, loved, and safe. The only critique I have is that there needs to be more thorough communication regarding registration and transfer process with AKC, the benefits, the limitations, and how to access your puppy's information. Thank you! I highly recommend this breeder.
