Lia G.

Breeder of Labrador Retrievers

Meet the breeder

I'm Lia G., the breeder behind Hi’ilani Kennels located in Kodiak, AK. When breeding, our priority is health and temperament. We breed for an even-tempered dog that will live a long, healthy life and be a wonderful, cherished member of their family.

Q. & A. with Lia

  • Why did you start breeding?

I knew from a very young age that I wanted to become a dog breeder. I read everything about the topic that I could get my hands on and did my own research. I read about health testing and knew that when I became a breeder, I wanted to do things the right way. Fast forward many years later, I had my own family and got my first Labrador. Then I found a mentor who has become one of my best friends.
  • What makes your program special?

I keep my program small. I want to be able to give each of my dogs individualized attention. I only breed1-2 litters a year. This allows me the opportunity to give my all to each litter I produce and lets me get to truly know each individual puppy. I give everything I have to raising my puppies, socializing them with noises, children, other animals, etc. My Labradors are part of my family.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include black, chocolate, and yellow. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and guardian homes.
