I'm Jeff & Hannah H., the breeder behind Hughes Heritage Aussies located in Albany, IN. Barron and Honey, are part of our everyday life on the farm — not just breeding dogs! We are committed to raise each puppy with hands-on care to prepare them for family, farm, or active homes. We breed on a small scale because we genuinely want every puppy to receive plenty of individual attention from the day they’re born.

Why did you start breeding?
We surprised our kids with a stuffed animal, a bag of dog treats, and a note telling them they could pick out their own dog. They both chose Australian Shepherds, and we were amazed by their intelligence and people-oriented personalities. We knew these were the dogs we wanted for years to come. As our love for the breed grew, so did our desire to responsibly raise healthy, well-socialized puppies for other families to enjoy.What makes your program special?
Our Australian Shepherd puppies have natural tails and dewclaws. We believe these decisions are personal preferences, and many families enjoy the expressive nature and appearance of a full tail. Our focus is on raising healthy, well-socialized Australian Shepherds with excellent temperaments.Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.
Getting a puppy from Jeff & Hannah
Jeff & Hannah has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.
After buyers complete the application and screening process, Jeff & Hannah partners with them to find the best puppy match.
“Our priority is placing each puppy in a loving, lifelong home where they will thrive. We spend the first several weeks getting to know each puppy’s unique personality and are happy to help families choose the puppy that best fits their home and lifestyle. Puppy selection takes place around 7–8 weeks of age, when the puppies’ temperaments have become more apparent.”

Vet Wellness Exam
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
DNA Disease Panel
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
