I'm Jo S., the breeder behind Jo Smallwood located in Carleton, MI. I'm the breeder of Jo Ann Yorkie's located in Carleton , MI. I have been breeding for over 30 years. We are pet owners first and foremost. All of our puppies are raised in my home with family until they’re ready to join yours. The sweet, playful disposition of our dogs inspired us to begin responsibly breeding to expand the breed and share them with others.

  • Why did you start breeding?

    My friend was breeding Yorkie and I fell in love. I have been breeding for 30 years.We love bringing so much happiness and love to our customers! We know how dogs are an important part of the family.

  • What makes your program special?

    I believe my dedication to the breed, to only breed to better it. To help other love them as much as do.

  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

    Our puppies include chocolate, tan and white, chocolate and tan, parti, black and tan, and black and gold. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.

  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

    A wonderful experience meeting Jo and having the ability to take one of her little charges home. I did quite a bit of research before deciding to bring this little boy home and most of it centered on the fact that 'Jo knows Yorkshire Terriers'. She does an excellent job with her babies and I couldn't be more thrilled to have this little guy be a part of our family. He is lively and healthy and I attribute that to Jo's careful upbringing and choosing the right combination of factors for her breeding program. This is my 4th little Yorkie boy in the past 25 years and he is a bundle of lovable hair. For anyone looking to bring a Yorkshire Terrier home, I would say that contacting Jo should be your first stop. Her years of experience and knowledge are invaluable for any Yorkie questions you may have. From socialization to potty training and having a little one medically ready to go to a new home, Jo is on the case. I was able to pick my little guy up but she has other transportation options also. I was able to meet my little guy's Mama which is an important item in my Yorkie World. Jo had all of the necessary paperwork ready, explained it all and provided an update on how the little boy was progressing along with a few new tips since it has been a while since we've had a babypuppy bouncing around the house. I believe that anyone looking to join 'Yorkie World' cannot go wrong with this breeder.

    Jo was extremely kind and helpful. She was gracious and sent me updated pictures of my puppy every few weeks. After pickup, she checked up on the puppy and helped me get him adjusted. She provided tips/tricks to get him to eat as he adjusted to his new environment. She was also extremely knowledgeable. I would 100% repurchase from her again!
