I'm Katie R., the breeder behind Kagee Border Collies located in Oroville, CA. We care deeply about Border Collies and have built that love and respect for the breed into every aspect of our program. We enjoy showing our dogs, and they are our companions in every adventure. We are invested in Border Collies and in helping the breed thrive. We do all that we can to give our puppies the best lives, including proper health care, thorough socialization, and finding them each a wonderful and loving home.
Q. & A. with Katie
Why did you start breeding?
Ever since I was a young child, I loved dogs! On one of my many trips to the bookstore with my dad to look at the dog books on the shelf, I spotted one about showing dogs. I quickly worked towards getting my first show dog, and the rest is history. Naturally, while showing and competing with dogs, you gain interest in breeding and helping produce the next generation of wonderful dogs to be loved.
What makes your program special?
My focus is to create the best quality dog possible and match puppies into homes where they will be empowered to be the best they can be, rather than "selling puppies". As their breeder, I am their voice, so will always look out for the best interests of my puppies. Our puppies are raised in our home, under our advanced "puppy school" curriculum, which sets the foundation for their best future.
What are the different breed coat types in your program?
Our puppies have rough coats. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include blue merle, black, and blue. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

About Miley
Miley is very sweet, wanting to spend her time crawling right into your lap, hand, arm, or whatever body part you will share to pet her with- LOL! She is athletic, fast, agile, and most certainly the quickest border collie we own. She has gorgeous structure, and a fabulous pedigree. Combined with her temperament, she is a great girl to own, love, and have as part of our breeding program.
Kagee Border Collies reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Border Collies.
Hip Dysplasia (Preliminary), Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Congenital Deafness (BAER, registered with OFA)
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
