Kanicula Cardigan Welsh Corgis

Katie R.

Breeder of Cardigan Welsh Corgis

Meet the breeder

I'm Katie R., the breeder behind Kanicula Cardigan Welsh Corgis located in Wasilla, AK. I am a Cardigan enthusiast and breeder; my family has had Cardigans since 2013. I train and compete with our Cardigans in conformation, herding, coursing ability, and other sports. I have recently bred my first litter, and it will be some time before we start planning for another.

Q. & A. with Katie

  • Why did you start breeding?

My dream started with a desire to learn everything about the Cardigan, from its origins as a cattle drover in Wales, to the versatile, intelligent, charming Corgi of today. I wanted to help preserve this ancient, rare breed. I got involved in dog sports with my Cardigans, and with the help of my mentor, joined the CWCCA, attended National Specialties, researched, studied, and developed my goals.
  • What makes your program special?

The first Cardigan came to Alaska in 1986. She became the foundation behind the first Cardigan breeding program in the state. My male Cardigan is one of just a few remaining dogs descended from that line. My dream is to continue his family's legacy, while focusing on health, longevity, soundness of structure and temperament, working ability, and correct, moderate type.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies are brindle and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.
