I'm Karen F., the breeder behind Karen's Shih Tzus located in Birch River, WV. It is our goal to produce adorable, affectionate Shih Tzu puppies that are healthy, well-tempered, and make wonderful companions. The sweet, loyal, and playful disposition of our dogs inspired us to begin responsibly breeding to expand the breed and share them with others.

  • Why did you start breeding?

    I got into breeding this lovely breed after I got my first ShihTzu, Raphael. He has a wonderful temperament and he is so lovable. Because of Raphael, he is the reason I wanted to breed this wonderful breed. This breed is so affectionate.

  • What makes your program special?

    I’m absolutely in love with all the different colors besides your standard ShihTzu color. I love the exotic colors with green eyes and sometimes blue eyes along with lavender noses or liver nose and Most of my puppies are exotic along with other the standard color. Plus not to mention it makes me so happy to help make other people so in love and happy with their forever fur baby. I will send you videos and updated pictures of your puppy and I’m also willing to FaceTime or video chat. All puppies are pet home only!

Getting a puppy from Karen

Price

Puppy prices include a $500 non-refundable deposit and between $1,500 - $1,900 final payment, before taxes & fees.

“My puppies are AKC and they come with registration and their first set of shots and health checked by a licensed Veterinary Doctor. They are socialized and dewormed several times before they are ready for their new home. If you are interested please reach out to me. Thank you! If you would like a puppy from me, my deposit is a non refundable in the amount of 500.00 and the balance is due a week before the puppy goes to their new and approved home.”

This helps protect both you and your breeder, ensuring that you both have a clear understanding of the terms of your puppy purchase.     Karen was exactly the sort of breeder we were looking for. Her mama dogs are her babies and their puppies are part of the family. Karen was also careful to make sure we were the kind of people who would take good care of a dog, which made me happy. We did a FaceTime and fell in love with boy 3. She told us if we came up with a name she would start using it with him - the next morning we told her he would be called Prince. Two days later we were on our way to pick up our 8.5 week old puppy. Karen graciously agreed to meet us halfway, which meant an almost 3 hour drive for both of us. Unfortunately, we ran out of gas about 10 minutes away from the meeting spot when the station we stopped at (with our range 0) was out of fuel. Karen saved us by coming with a gas can and following us to the closest station to make sure we got gassed up. And that's when she gave him to us. There were tears all around. Since then we have kept Karen updated on Prince's amazing progress. He is the sweetest boy, gentle but assertive, affectionate and playful, smarter than average, and healthy. I will recommend Karen to any of our friends looking for a beautiful Shih Tzu.

    Karen was so responsive and knowledgeable about breed. You can tell she really cares about her pups. She stayed in touch and sent me regular updates and video as my puppy grew.     This whole experience through good dog, and particularly working with Karen, has been wonderful. From day 1, Karen has shown her love, caring & knowledge of her Shih Tzus. She sent us daily updates, pictures & videos in the wait to pick him up. Our Wally was sent home with plenty of toys, treats, food, & pee pads.
