I'm Kelly A., the breeder behind Kelly's Australian Shepherds located in Traer, IA. We are a small family breeder raising Australian Shepherds in our home with our 10 homeschooled children. Our dogs are part of our family & are raised around kids, cats, & everyday life. Pups receive lots of love so they grow into friendly, confident companions ready for their new families. 🐶.

Why did you start breeding?
Our family got into breeding because we saw how much raising & caring for animals benefits our children. With 10 homeschooled kids, it has been a beautiful way to teach responsibility, compassion, & stewardship. Our dogs are part of our family, & raising puppies together has become a meaningful part of our home life.
What makes your program special?
Our puppies are raised in our home with our 10 homeschooled children, so they receive constant love, handling, and socialization from the very beginning. They grow up around kids, cats, and everyday household life, which helps them become confident, friendly companions ready to transition smoothly into family homes.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include blue merle and black tri-color. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.

Getting a puppy from Kelly

Kelly has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

After buyers complete the application and screening process, Kelly partners with them to find the best puppy match.

“Our goal is to match each puppy with the right family. We review applications & communicate with potential buyers to learn about their home & lifestyle so we can ensure the best fit for both the puppy & the family. We reserve the right to choose the placement that we feel is best for each puppy.”

Price

Puppy prices include a $300 non-refundable deposit. The remaining $450 - $1,300 is due before pickup, plus applicable taxes and fees.

“The price includes ASDR registration, first vaccinations, deworming, & lots of early socialization.”

Contract & health guarantee

Kelly may provide a written contract or health guarantee when you purchase a puppy. This helps protect both you and your breeder, ensuring that you both have a clear understanding of the terms of your puppy purchase. Prior to the meeting Kelly was extremely responsive, this was huge to my wife and I during the pre-discussion of selecting a puppy, Kelly did a fantastic job describing the personality types of the puppies she had and helping identify the right one for us. The meeting went fantastic. Kelly let us play with all three of the puppies and let us be the first ones to choose!!! She gave of all the time in the world to make our decision. We talked, the puppies played where Kelly picked a park where we could meet halfway. She even offered to take a picture of my wife, the new puppy and I. It was a great experience and we adore the puppy we picked. Anytime we tell people where we got them we are 100 percent truthful where and who we got him from. Thanks for making this process an easy one after a hard time after the passing of our other dog.

Kelly was great to work with and was accommodating for pickup to meet my schedule availability. Cinnamon, was very shy at first, but after his first night, has become very comfortable and happy. My partner and I, along with Cinnamon are all learning each other and has been fun. Only one accident so far, and I will blame myself for sleeping too long. Otherwise potty time has been very easy for him. He is learning commands, I think he is very happy, and so are we!
