Meet the breeder

I'm Hope M., the breeder behind Kingsgift Collies located in Nunn, CO. I carefully plan each breeding to help ensure the health and future of these wonderful dogs that I fell in love with in 1985. I enjoy showing my dogs in Conformation, Obedience, and Rally shows. As a dog trainer, I know the importance of socialization and training in the life of a puppy. I do all that I can to give my puppies proper health care, thorough socialization, and beginning training so they will have their best lives in wonderful, loving homes. I love keeping up with all my owners in order to see how my puppies thrive in their new homes.

Q. & A. with Hope

  • Why did you start breeding?

I have always shown my Collies in conformation dog shows in order to demonstrate that they are excellent representatives of the breed standard. I want to preserve the sweet, loving temperament and gorgeous looks of this outstanding breed for others to share. I enjoy seeing my puppies go to loving homes where they will be appreciated for the fine attributes which Collies encompass.
  • What makes your program special?

I am committed to breeding healthy dogs by testing my breeding stock for the known issues which Collies may have. I breed to the AKC Collie standard in order to preserve the "look" of these beautiful dogs that I fell in love with. I know that training any dog will improve its relationship with its family, so I start training my puppies at an early age. This helps ease their transition to their new homes.
  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

Our puppies have rough coats. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include black white and tan, blue merle and white, and sable and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

As someone who has interacted with breeders before, I can confidently say that Hope is a consummate breeder, and anyone would be lucky to get a rough collie from her. First, Hope was highly communicative. She was willing to answer any questions I had about the breed, whether Mipha (our rough collie) would be a good fit for our family, and what I should be prepared for when raising a rough collie. She even provided videos on proper grooming techniques and training. Hope still, almost a year later, is willing to answer questions and give advice. Second, she worked with us extensively to ensure we could pick Mipha up, including coordinating multi-state travel because we live in Texas. Third, as alluded to previously, Hope was able to provide a training course for Mipha before pickup, which worked wonderfully. Mipha was already off to a great start on day 1 of being in our home, even with it being the acclimation period. Additionally, Hope is an amazing person who cares about the longevity of her puppies. You can tell she is focused on the health and purpose of the breed, which is evident in Mipha's outstanding health and personality. We even received a binder containing vet records, including medical tests done relevant to rough collie health concerns, Mipha's AKC paperwork, and even general guides on rough collie health to ensure we provide proper care. As for our relationship with Mipha over the last year, she is truly a treasure to have and highly intelligent; her kind and bubbly personality has made such a difference in my life as someone with PTSD. Mipha also loves her pet brothers, Kona, our Irish Wolfhound, and Ruxpin, our Manx cat. If you're considering getting a rough collie, call Hope first. It was/is the best breeder experience I've ever had.

We are so thankful we found Hope and Kingsgift Collies. Hope is a breeder who is incredibly kind, deeply knowledgeable about collies and puppy training, and who very clearly loves each and every one of her dogs. She was so responsive and answered every question (no matter how small or silly!) thoroughly and kindly. We are first-time collie owners, so we had A LOT of questions for her! We are settling in with our little Hastings, thanks in very large part to how well Hope socialized him beforehand and how much care she took to play, train, and love him before he came home with us. This puppy is one of the smartest puppies I've ever had, and so unbelievably sweet and loving. We had the pleasure to meet his mom, aunt and grandpa, and they were just the same; he comes from a great lineage! Hope sent us home with a binder full of information on his lineage, registration, and vet documents for our first vet visit. She also walked us through some basic grooming, and the training routines she'd been doing with the puppies. Hope thought of every detail, and helped make us feel prepared for our new addition. If you are lucky enough to get a Kingsgift Collie, you will soon see they truly are gift!
