Q. & A. with Tessa

  • Why did you start breeding?

My journey into breeding started with a love for Dachshunds and a desire to share this amazing breed with other families. What began as a passion for owning and learning about the breed quickly grew into a commitment to preserving the qualities that make Dachshunds such wonderful companions.
  • What makes your program special?

At KL Country, we believe that a puppy's first weeks of life are incredibly important, which is why we work hard to expose them to everyday sights, sounds, and experiences to help build confidence and prepare them for a smooth transition into their new homes. We also prioritize open communication with our puppy families and remain available for guidance and support throughout the life of each dog.
  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

Our puppies are miniature size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

Our puppies include smooth and longhaired coat varieties. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include piebald, red, chocolate, black and tan, and dapple. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Getting a puppy from Tessa

Tessa has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

After buyers complete the application and screening process, Tessa partners with them to find the best puppy match.

“At KL Country, we believe finding the right puppy is about more than choosing a color or gender—it's about creating the best match for both the puppy and its future family. We take the time to get to know each buyer's lifestyle, experience level, family dynamics, and goals for their new companion. Because we spend every day with our puppies, we are able to observe their individual personalities, energy levels, and temperaments as they develop. We use this knowledge to help guide families toward the puppy that is the best fit for their home and expectations. While buyer preferences are always considered, the long-term success of the puppy and family is our top priority. Our goal is to place each puppy in a home where it can thrive and become a cherished member of the family for years to come. We are happy to answer questions, discuss each puppy's personality, and provide honest recommendations to help ensure a successful match.”

  • Vet Wellness Exam

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • DNA Disease Panel

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
