I'm Teri H., the breeder behind Lakenheath Yorkies located in Lexington, SC. I am a proud member of the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America, and I've been recognized as an AKC Breeder of Merit and AKC bred with H.E.A.R.T. I love to show my dogs in the conformation ring, and have been breeding Yorkies since 2008.

“I do not take the deposit until the puppy has been health checked by my vet and has received their first vaccinations. I prefer taking deposit when you are meeting your puppy for the first time and you are sure this is the puppy for you.”

Lakenheath Yorkies reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Yorkshire Terriers.

  • Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)

    Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.

  • Patellar Luxation

    Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.

  • Serum Bile Acid Test

    A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • Dilated Cardiomyopathy 1 (DCM1), Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A), Protein-Losing Nephropathy (PLN; NPHS1 Gene Variant), Full Embark Panel

    Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
