I'm Bethany W., the breeder behind Lakeside Dachshunds located in Statesville, NC. All of our dogs are loved as family members. We cherish our puppies from birth up until they leave our arms to snuggle into yours! Our dogs stole our hearts right from the start and we found ourselves wanting to get more involved. Breeding was a natural next step and we haven’t looked back since!
Q. & A. with Bethany
Why did you start breeding?
I was lonely just before Christmas in 2017 and decided I needed a puppy. I couldn’t choose a breed and my husband suggested the mini dachshund. I wasn’t sure but I decided to go ahead. We’ll the rest is history. I bought a female Black and Tan dapple and she stole my heart. About 8 months later I decided she was lonely so I got her a birthday present, a male Black and Tan. After having them for a while and being smitten with them and the breed I set my eyes on breeding. I started looking for the best of the breed. We have champion bloodlines and even have an import from Europe. Here we are today.
What makes your program special?
In our program we make sure we have the best of the best when it comes to our parents. We start at 3 days old with a sensory and neurological stimulation on the puppies. This includes introducing the puppies to different smells and textures. We do body handling every day. We play with their feet to get them ready for nail clippings. We put our fingers in their mouths so they get used to being examined. Last we do puppy massages and here we find their “ticklish spot”. We play a tape that has normal household sounds so that they don’t get startled by the dishwasher or some other sound. All this and socializing them with our other dogs and of course my granddaughters let’s them get used to being handled by others.
What are the different breed sizes in your program?
Our puppies are miniature size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat types in your program?
Our puppies have longhaired coats. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include cream, chocolate and cream, chocolate and tan, black and cream, black and tan, and dapple. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?

Bethany was so wonderful to work with throughout our puppy purchase. Bethany is very knowledgeable and helpful when it comes to looking for the right puppy. I learned the hard way that you can’t trust everything you see online when looking for a puppy. There are so many scammers out there that make their profiles look legit. If you are looking for a mini Dachshund you will not be disappointed if you decide to go with Lakeside Dachshunds. Our fur baby has the best temperament and has adjusted so well and I truly believe it’s because the way Bethany tends to her pups from day one. We can’t thank her enough and I’d have a houseful if I could.
