Meet the breeder

I'm Susan C., the breeder behind LaTiKi Border Collies located in New London, WI. I have been breeding about 40 yrs, started w/ Border Collies 30 yrs ago. I breed, max, 2 litters a yr, w/ 3-4 litters between 2 1/2 and 7 yrs. ABCA/AKC registered, raised in house. Parents DNA/OFA. We compete in sports. Puppies have ENS/ESI done in early days and PAT test done at 7wks, taken to work from 1wk till 6wks old, learning to ride in vehicles (crated), taken to stores ASAP to experience new things. Litter trained. They go home UTD on vaccines, vet examined, microchipped, and parasite free.

Q. & A. with Susan

  • Why did you start breeding?

For love of the breed I wanted to be able to offer pups from health certified parents to save others the heartache I had w/ my 1st as there didn't seem to be any in my area at the time.
  • What makes your program special?

On top of ENS/ESI performed in early days and PAT test done at 7wks my pups are taken to work starting by 1wk till 6wks old and so, learn to ride in vehicles (crated), taken to stores starting at 3wks to experience new sights/smells/sounds/people. Where possible, pups get a swim lesson or 2. They are, at minimum, litter trained. I have many repeat buyers and many references.
  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

Our puppies have rough coats. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include tri-color and black and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Great level

LaTiKi Border Collies reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Border Collies.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Vet Wellness Exam

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • DNA Disease Panel

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
