I'm Leila J., the breeder behind Laura & Leila Johnson's Border Collies located in Columbus, OH. We breed high-quality, low-quantity Border Collies. Our dogs are working-line, ABCA and AKC registered. They will only ever be sold to working or performing households. Q. & A. with Leila

  • Why did you start breeding?

We are driven by continuing our dogs’ lineage. They are phenomenal working dogs in the hands of the right owners. We look forward to seeing how far and how fast our puppies go with their achievements.
  • What makes your program special?

Our puppies will only go to performing homes. We encourage our buyers to keep in contact and share their accomplishments every step of the way.

Parent health testing

Laura & Leila Johnson's Border Collies reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Border Collies.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)

Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • Canine Good Citizen (CGC)

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA), Full Embark Panel

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
