I'm Shauna D., the breeder behind Laurendel Shelties located in Knightdale, NC. We keep a small number of adult dogs, occasionally growing out a puppy. All of our animals are raised and live in our home, they enjoy both pet and show life.
Q. & A. with Shauna
Why did you start breeding?
Through the generosity of Barbara Thompson of Barwood Shelties we acquired "Barwoods Georgette At Laurendel" in 2002. Georgie is the dam of our first two AKC Champions, and the foundation behind our current dogs. Barbara was a good friend and excellent mentor, and I will always treasure the time I spent with her.
What makes your program special?
We are a small hobby breeder with a deep concern for the preservation of AKC purebred dogs. Our breeding dogs are tested for breed specific health issues and CHIC certified. While purebred dogs have breed specific desired temperaments described by the AKC standards, we are thoughtful about the temperaments our breeding choices may create and socialize our puppies and dogs to prepare them for a happy life. We are also thoughtful to consider that each animal we place is suited for the new owner.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include sable merle and white and sable and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.
