I'm Sara H., the breeder behind Leaftail located in Gig Harbor, WA. I am a small time hobbiest currently with only one breeding dog. I am mainly interested in normal pet stuff and some performance sports with my dogs. Salsa is a bit of a once in a lifetime dog though and I am excited to see what she produces.

the puppies had a HUGE weekend. they met ducks (twice) and chicken wing showed a lot of interest and go. they were evaluated by both the breeder of the dam and sire among other mentors. they had many visitors, adventures, first car rides and completed their temperament testing yesterday!

About Salsa
Salsa has just never had a bad day. She wants nothing more than to please - she is very eager to partner and doesn't want to be wrong. She's very responsive, thoughtful and consistent. I joke she came out the womb a grown dog - she's always just been the easiest girl with the biggest personality.
Excellent health testing

Leaftail reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Border Collies.
Hip Dysplasia (rDVM, not registered), Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia (rDVM, not registered)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Eye Examination (rDVM, not registered with OFA), Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Congenital Deafness (BAER, registered with OFA)
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
