Meet the breeder

I'm Karen P., the breeder behind Little Miracles Shih Tzu located in Winston Salem, NC. Here at Little Miracles Shih Tzu, we are dedicated and strive to provide you with a well balanced and socialized loving family companion. We raise our puppies in our home which provides them an enriched environment to increase their social skills and emotional stability right from the start.

Q. & A. with Karen

  • Why did you start breeding?

My grandmother was an animal lover. She used to take in stray cats, fix up birds with broken wings and take in orphaned baby bunnies. She also always had dogs. She passed on her love of animals on to me. I have been breeding dogs for 34 years. I started out breeding Golden Retrievers and then Cocker Spaniels until settling into solely breeding the beautiful Shih Tzu.
  • What makes your program special?

We raise our puppies in our home which provides them an enriched environment to increase their social skills and emotional stability right from the start. We introduce our puppies to love, sounds, sights, and touch using early neurological stimulation. We know that a well socialized puppy is not only happier and healthier but also makes a far better pet for you.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include black, gold, red, gold and white, and brindle. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Working with Karen was so wonderful. She was very communicative, answered all my questions, and we are so happy with our puppy. This was my first experience working with a breeder, and every step was great. Maddox acts like he has always been with us and we can't imagine life without him. He is super healthy, energetic, and a ball of sunshine. We love him so much!

If we wanted to get a ‘doodle’ dog, we had many referrals. However, since owning shih tzues for the past 30 years we decided we wanted another one. We didn’t know where to go except the internet. (The past breeder we used retired and had no referrals for us). Everyone warns about scammers so I was weary about many-eagle eyes to see if anything seemed off. Then, through Good Dog, we found Karen Perkins, owner of Little Miracles Shih Tzu. We loved the pictures of her puppies past and present. They looked healthy with great features and loved their colors. As soon as we met Karen(FaceTime), we connected. We knew she was the real deal. She was professional, articulate, friendly, and open to my many, many questions to her with timely responses. Slowly, my fears dealing with an unknown to me dissipated. Last week, our puppy came to us by a flight nanny referred by Karen. We were hoping we would have gone to get her so we could hug her but it wasn’t feasible due to distance. Our little baby girl is beautiful, sweet, funny, healthy and lovable. We wholehearted recommend Little Shih Tzu!

We love our puppy Walter who we got from Little Miracles. He fits right in with our family and is spoiled already.
