Meet the breeder

I'm Kaleb D., the breeder behind Long Cane Retrievers LLC located in Abbeville, SC. At our kennel, we are dedicated to producing well-bred labs through thoughtful breeding practices, extensive health testing, and careful selection of proven bloodlines. Our puppies are raised in a hands-on environment with early socialization and enrichment to help them develop into confident, well-rounded dogs. Whether destined for an active family, hunting home, or performance and sporting career, we strive to give every puppy the best possible start.

Q. & A. with Kaleb

  • Why did you start breeding?

Breeding has always been the main goal. That’s what the hunt test, field trials and training all lead up to. Producing the best dog and understanding what pairing can continue the contribution to the breed.
  • What makes your program special?

What makes our breeding program special are the hands on interaction we perform on our dogs at an early age to set them up for as much success as possible. Whether it’s potty/crate training to scent work to field trials. We know what the end goal looks like to each extreme and what it takes to get there.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies are black. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.
