Why did you start breeding?
The love of Dachshunds started long before I considered breeding. After spending years around animals, I wanted to be part of preserving everything that makes this breed special. Its to raise healthy, socialized puppies with great temperaments that families can enjoy for years to come. Every litter is planned with care, and every pup is raised as part of our family before becoming part of yours.What makes your program special?
At Long Dog Ranch, we are a small program! Every puppy receives plenty of individual attention, daily handling, and early socialization. Raised on our Missouri farm, our puppies are exposed to everyday sights, sounds, and experiences that help them grow into confident companions. We are committed to responsible breeding, honest communication, and supporting our puppy families for life.What are the different breed sizes in your program?

Parent health testing

Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA), Eye Examination (rDVM, not registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Cardiac Evaluation (rDVM, not registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Patellar Luxation
Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.
Vet Wellness Exam
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
DNA Disease Panel
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
