Meet the breeder

I'm Gwen R., the breeder behind Long Ears and Long Dogs Ranch located in Bigfork, MN. We focus on temperament and conformation first and color second. Our goal is to create dogs that will be partners for a lifetime. We strive for quality in everything that we do. We love spoiling and pampering our dogs, and hope that our puppies' new homes will love and cherish them just as much as we do!

Q. & A. with Gwen

  • Why did you start breeding?

I used to breed and raise Coonhounds, but I fell for Doxies and their little bodies with lion hearts! I also find Doxie color genetics fascinating and love to study them and see the possibilities in a breeding pair. I have loved the journey and I am a proud breeder with a focus on temperament and the overall mental and physical health of my puppies. I love placing happy, healthy puppies with loving families.
  • What makes your program special?

Our dogs are our family members first and foremost. They live in our home and usually use us as their beds! I do everything I can to ensure my puppies have what they need to develop into healthy and happy dogs. We are very dedicated to what we do and what we are trying to achieve as breeders. We work with passion, heart, integrity, and truly want what's best for the Dachshund line.
  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

Our puppies include miniature and standard sizes. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

Our puppies include longhaired and smooth coat varieties. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include cream, red, black, chocolate, brindle, blue and tan, fawn (isabella) and tan, chocolate and tan, black and tan, and dapple. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

From the time we reserved “ Gunnar” through now ( 4 months later) we have had a very positive experience with Gwen of Long Ears and Long Dogs Ranch. Gwen promptly answers questions we have had. Gunnar is a loving, curious dog who is very smart. He sleeps through the night and travels well in the car. We highly recommend Gwen as a breeder who is experienced, knowledgeable and caring! If we decide to get another Doxie in the future we will definitely use Long Ears and Long Dogs Ranch again! Thank you Gwen! Lori and Bob
