Why did you start breeding?
My journey with dogs began at two local kennels, where I was mentored in grooming, bathing, and the art of the show ring. In 1971 I purchased my own first show dog, had my first litter in 1973, and have been raising pure breds ever since. Though my knees don’t allow me to show, I'm so happy to have met Melissa who has a similar passion for dogs and who I have partnered with to carry on my passion.What makes your program special?
Our breeding program is special because we focus on producing happy, healthy, and well-socialized Miniature Dachshunds that are true to type. At Mahzian Miniature Dachshunds, all our dogs are AKC registered, and we carefully select for temperament, health, and versatility so they thrive as family pets, working dogs, or in performance and show.What are the different breed sizes in your program?

Player has an exceptionally sweet temperament and truly loves being close to his people. He adores snuggling under blankets and will happily melt into our arms any chance he gets. In our home, Player is a calm and confident pack leader for our small herd of dogs, maintaining harmony with steady, natural leadership. His balanced temperament also shines in how he helps raise our puppies from newborn stages, modeling proper dog etiquette and contributing to well-socialized, respectful young dogs. Dollop received her name for her stunning patchwork of colour. She loves to cuddle. She is very busy little girl like your typical Dachshund and is always up for a car ride of a walk. Her favourite things are squeaky toys and squirrels. She has been Embark tested.

Maddie has a lively, happy temperament and adores playing with toys, especially ones that squeak! Beyond her playful side, she is incredibly gentle and affectionate. As a mother, she truly shines. Intuitive, attentive, and completely devoted to her puppies, she nurtures them into well-adjusted, confident young dogs. She balances gentle guidance with engaging play, helping them develop proper dog etiquette and strong social skills. Maddie is AKC registered with full registration.

Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.

+4Five stars for Mary Lou and Melissa! We picked up our male Dachshund, Cusco, at 13 weeks old on 3/14/26 and he is absolutely perfect. It was clear from the start how much care and preparation went into his early weeks; he arrived happy, healthy, and all ready to go—including prepared with a health certificate from the vet so we could fly him back home with us. Mary Lou and Melissa ensured the entire process was seamless; they were extremely communicative, transparent, and obviously truly passionate about their dogs. Cusco is sweet, smart, and was clearly raised with a lot of love. Thank you both for making this such a positive experience!
