Meet the breeder

I'm Lori O., the breeder behind Match Dot Pup located in Pittsville, WI. We focus on breeding AKC Australian Shepherds that possess excellent temperaments, top health, and high intelligence. We follow an advanced curriculum for raising puppies, beginning when they are only three days old. We place great importance on conducting thorough evaluations to assist our clients in making the most suitable "match" that considers both their requirements and the well-being of the puppies.

Q. & A. with Lori

  • Why did you start breeding?

    I’d like to share my personal story of “the healing power of a dog!” My journey is fueled by the profound impact a dog had on me, inspiring me to pursue breeding. Here’s my story… For almost two years, I devoted myself to caring for my father as he battled cancer. After his passing, the days became increasingly challenging, and the months seemed to intensify the struggles. Daily tasks felt daunting, and emotions fluctuated between anger and sadness. Thoughts of my dad were always accompanied by tears, making it difficult to navigate through the grief. It took six long months for me to realize I needed something to uplift my spirits, something just for me. The idea of welcoming an Australian Shepherd puppy, a dream I had nurtured for years, emerged as the perfect solution. It meant caring for another being, and in return, the puppy would need me. And so, my quest began. I was determined to find a healthy dog from a reputable breeder to spare myself from potential heartache. That's when I discovered Indy, a few days old at the time. The wait of nearly eight weeks to meet her felt slow, but the videos and pictures I received documented her growth, making the anticipation joyful. I finally brought her home just before New Year's, and she seemed to intuitively understand how much I needed her. Indy brought joy back into my life, offering me a renewed sense of purpose and someone to care for. Around the time Indy turned four months old, my daughter decided to get an Australian Shepherd boy who she named Gilbert. With her busy schedule as a teacher, I offered to help potty train and care for him until summer. Now, I had two adorable pups demanding my attention, and gradually, the tears over missing my dad lessened. As Gilbert grew and the time for him to leave approached, I felt it was the right moment to introduce another Australian Shepherd girl, fulfilling my initial plan. Mid-summer, I brought Skye into our home. She loved me unconditionally and I returned that love. My goal is clear – to breed Australian Shepherds and share the "healing power of a dog" with others. When I'm fortunate to have a litter of puppies, I have the privilege of showering each and every one of them with unconditional love until they find their forever homes. As a breeder, I aspire to raise "Awesome AKC Australian Shepherds" that will bring joy, healing, and love to the lives of their future owners. {Aussie Paws & Tales 2/24/24}
  • What makes your program special?

    Ever found yourself claiming, "I have the best puppy ever"? The secret to discovering that perfect canine companion isn't just luck; it's about finding the right puppy that aligns seamlessly with your lifestyle. So, how do you go about this process instead of hoping for puppy serendipity? What's the Key The key is to connect with a breeder who delves into your preferences, asking about your past experiences with puppies—both the positives and the challenges. The magic of "matching" happens through temperament testing, a process that gauges a puppy's natural disposition, personality, and potential behaviors. This testing is a crucial tool employed by breeders and animal behaviorists to pair each puppy with the most compatible owner and living environment. Temperament Testing Temperament testing involves a non-invasive evaluation conducted when puppies are 7–12 weeks old, a critical phase in their socialization. It provides insights into their unique strengths, weaknesses, and characteristics, offering a glimpse into their future behavior. By understanding a puppy's temperament early on, responsible breeders ensure a successful and harmonious "match"  with their forever home. Stable Traits Our assessments concentrate on fourteen traits, divided into two categories: stable and adjustable. Stable traits are enduring characteristics that persist throughout a dog's life, resistant to significant change through training or life experiences. These include Assertiveness (towards humans), Motivation Level, Energy Level, Prey Drive, Human Focus, Herding Drive, Excitability/Reaction to Movement, Tender Heartedness, and Dog Friendliness. To ensure the well-being of the dog and a successful "match" with its owner, it's essential to appropriately accommodate or manage these stable traits. Adjustable Traits Conversely, we also evaluate adjustable traits, which can be molded and enhanced through proper training and social exposure. These traits encompass Confidence, Nerve Strength/Resiliency, Touch Tolerance, Sound Sensitivity, and Sight Sensitivity. Understanding these adjustable traits allows us to influence and foster a puppy's behavior, shaping them into well-rounded and confident companions. Conclusion In conclusion, the quest for the perfect puppy goes beyond luck—it involves a meticulous process of "matching." By engaging with breeders who understand your preferences and conducting temperament testing, you can discover a companion whose traits align seamlessly with your lifestyle. The stability of certain traits ensures a consistent and positive relationship, while the flexibility of adjustable traits allows for shaping and development through training and socialization. Embrace the journey of finding your ideal puppy, guided by the art of temperament matching, and create a harmonious bond that lasts a lifetime. {Aussie Paws & Tales 1/15/24}

    Lori has been so helpful during this process. She does so much work to ensure the puppies she raises have exposure to all different things and I feel it really helps their temperament. She was kind and offering her time and her knowledge. We are first time puppy owners, and our sweet boy is a wonderful dog, but the transition for our family was harder than expected. Lori took the time to talk us through some things that we could try and give ideas for integrating the dog successfully into our home. She really wants to see her puppies successful in their new homes and really cares for them.

    Lori was great, she responded back with information on the breed and temperament and got back to us very quickly. She answered all are questions and was kind and polite throughout the whole time. Arlo is just what we needed in our little family. He has the best temperament and you can tell comes from a good line of pups. Going through Lori was stress free and we can’t thank her enough!

    Working with Lori and Match-Dot-Pup to get our daughter’s service dog was truly life-changing. From day one, Lori listened closely to our needs and matched us with Promise, who has exceeded every expectation. She’s not just a dog—she’s a highly trained service animal who helps our daughter with independence, emotional regulation, and Deep Pressure Therapy (DPT). Promise is calm, intuitive, and incredibly responsive in every situation. We are beyond grateful— with Match-Dot-Pup!

    Lori brought us our 3rd Australian Shepherd in the past 40 years… and what a gem he is! Working with Lori was super. She keeps her puppies a little longer to put them through a puppy “Get Started” program. AND YOU CAN TELL IT!!!! Vincent was born on June 18,2025… we got him mid September. All of his medical procedures were up to date and provided for our vet. His first check up here with our vet received 5 Gold Stars for his condition starting out with them. He has nearly doubled in weight since then. Vinney’s personality… intelligence… sweetness… and companionship are AWESOME!!! Lori’s love for her babies shows in the pleasant nature of her puppies!!!!!

    My experience with Lori was wonderful. She has developed and prepared the puppy I brought home for a great start in life. Rocco is in his third class of puppy school and is doing very well. Crate training was pretty fast. Rocco loves to play in the backyard and is very silly. I am very happy with obtaining a puppy through Lori.

    I spent considerable time looking at Aussies breeders on Good Dog and found Lori and Match-Dot-Pup. I read through the reviews, looked at her dogs, pups and all the videos she posted and knew straightaway that she was the breeder for us. I reached out, inquiring about Imani, and specifically what I was looking for as I have a specific need for a service dog. We discussed further training that Lori would do with Imani to get her in the best place possible for her to start working with me in service. The torture was the waiting, but it sure paid off. Lori worked with Imani extensively, and she completed her ACK Good Dog and Urban Good Dog training (with certificates). The bonus command for me has been the deep pressure therapy, which has been amazing. Imani stays by my side, listens, does what she is asked and excels in all that she’s been tasked with. I could not have asked for a better, sweeter, kinder dog. I worked with Lori over 7 months, and got Imani when she was 14 months old and she was so worth the wait. Lori is so knowledgeable of Aussies, and she clearly has a love for what she does. She’s thorough, conscientious, thoughtful and just a pleasure to talk with - in fact, our many conversations felt like we were old friends. And she follows up, and is responsive to every question I’ve had. If I ever had a need (I always have a want) for another dog, I wouldn’t hesitate to work with Lori again. To demonstrate how thoughtful she is, because I got Imani when she was older, she had already had her first heat. Lori contacted me to ask if I’d like to have Imani spayed before coming out to California. The cost was considerably cheaper in Wisconsin - Lori arranged that with her longtime vet and took great care of Imani after her surgery. She went above and beyond. Once Imani came to us, we have worked with the local chapter of the AKC just to reenforce Lori’s training. Our trainer has mentioned several times what a great dog Imani is and she was stunned that a dog so young had completed both AKC trainings. I am beyond thrilled with Imani and she’s just a wonderful addition to our family, and her ability and capacity as a service dog has been exactly what I need and had hoped for. I will forever be grateful to Lori and while it may sound extreme, because I had a need for a service dog, and all the work she put into Imani, Lori has changed my life for the better. Thank you Lori!
