I'm Joanna R., the breeder behind Maya's World Labradors with Love located in Wallace, NC. Our dogs are bred with care, integrity, and intention. We raise each litter right here in our home, using a custom protocol that includes elements of the well-known Puppy Culture program to support healthy development from the very beginning.
Raising happy, healthy, confident puppies isn’t just a hobby for us — it’s a lifelong passion grounded in science, hands-on experience, and a whole lot of love.
Q. & A. with Joanna
Why did you start breeding?
My journey into breeding started long before our first litter of puppies. With a background in Animal Science and years of hands-on experience breeding other species — including horses, swine, and chickens — I’ve always had a deep respect for animal genetics, health, and responsible reproduction.
What makes your program special?
For us, breeding and raising puppies is more than a job or hobby. It’s a lifelong passion rooted in education, hands-on experience, and the joy of watching animals grow and bond with the people who love them.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include black and chocolate. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

About Maya
Maya is more than just a beautiful Labrador Retriever — she’s a true working dog with an incredible temperament. Her pedigree combines the best of both worlds, with one parent from strong working lines and the other from conformation (show) lines, giving her both intelligence and structure.
Maya is not only a loving companion at home, but she also has an important job. She works alongside her owner as a demonstration dog in a high school Animal Science program, helping educate students about animal behavior, training, and care. Her calm, responsive nature makes her an excellent teaching assistant and a favorite among students.
Smart, loyal, and steady — Maya brings both heart and purpose to everything she does.
