Meet the breeder

I'm Heather G., the breeder behind McGovern Family Corgis located in Paxton, IL. Our puppies are raised in our home on a farm in central Illinois, handled daily and exposed to children, other dogs, and farm animals. We focus on health, temperament, and placing each puppy in the right home.

Q. & A. with Heather

  • Why did you start breeding?

We’ve been raising Labrador Retrievers since 2000, but after our daughter Tiffany brought home her first corgi, we quickly fell in love with the breed. We added our stud Diego, whose temperament truly stood out, and partnered with Tiffany McGovern—hence McGovern Family Corgis—to grow the program together. What began as a love for the breed has become a true family passion.
  • What makes your program special?

Our puppies are raised as part of our family in our home on a farm, surrounded by children, everyday life, and exposure to other dogs and farm animals. This early foundation helps them become confident, well-adjusted companions. With over 20 years of experience, we focus on health, temperament, and thoughtful placement, ensuring each puppy is matched with the right home for long-term success.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include red, sable, blue, and black and tan. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Getting a puppy from Heather

Heather has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

After buyers complete the application and screening process, Heather partners with them to find the best puppy match.

“We take great care in matching each puppy with the right family. Buyers are thoughtfully screened and approved to ensure a good fit for both the puppy and the home. Puppies are matched based on temperament, personality, and the needs of each family, rather than color or markings alone. We begin evaluating personalities as they grow and typically make final matches around 7–8 weeks of age. Our goal is to set every puppy and family up for long-term success.”

Heather and her husband were wonderful to work with. Heather responded to us very quickly and even went out of her way to meet us half way to pick up our sweet cowboy. It was definitely a smooth and easy process and she answered any questions I did have and was extremely helpful. We have had Cowboy for almost a week and he has such a fun and loving personality. He’s full of energy but boy does he love his naps. Thank you Heather for everything you do!

We had a wonderful experience with Heather and McGovern Family Corgis! We heard about this family from a friend who had gotten their puppy from them in the past. Heather was very responsive throughout the entire process, and answered all my endless questions. She even sent me update photos of my pup before he was ready for pick up, and sent updates of his temperament and training. We love our little Winston! It was also great to get to meet the mom and dad doggies to see where our little pup came from. I would definitely recommend Heather and her family to anyone looking for a little corgi. You can tell she really cares about giving these pups good homes, even after taking the puppy home. Thank you Heather, for our little Winston - we love him so much already. :)

Heather was so wonderful to work with when we got our Suki girl. We had lots of questions about our fur baby before getting her & Heather was extremely responsive and patient with us, answering all of our questions thoroughly and with care. She was full of knowledge and so easy to communicate. We couldn’t be more happy with our decision and are so thankful to Heather and her crew!😊
