I'm Libby R., the breeder behind MD Dogs Inc located in Lexington, KY. Our purpose in breeding is to produce medical alert dogs who have the drive to alert among any distraction, the confidence to thrive in any environment, and the biddability to be trained by any aged handler. All puppies receive neonatal imprinting to jumpstart their alerting and maximize accuracy.
Q. & A. with Libby
Why did you start breeding?
Our mission is to produce future Diabetic Alert Dogs, and we have found one way to do this is to breed confident, health tested, driven dogs and imprint the litters from birth to give families who are training their own Diabetic Alert Dog a leg up and set them up for success as much as possible.
What makes your program special?
All our puppies are raised with the intent of becoming Service Dogs, so even our pets have a phenomenal start to life. Our dam is a fully trained Diabetic Alert Dog and all puppies receive our Neonatal Scent Imprinting from just 24 hours old until they go home. By the time they go home, the dogs are showing clear recognition of low blood sugar odors when around type 1 diabetics.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Excellent level
MD Dogs Inc reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for English Cocker Spaniels.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia (rDVM, not registered)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Patellar Luxation
Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
