I'm Kaitlyn G., the breeder behind Melia Poodles located in Salt Lake City, UT. Our dogs are bred for health and temperament focusing mainly on successes in therapy, service work, conformation and performance.
Q. & A. with Kaitlyn
Why did you start breeding?
I started really looking into breeding when I started my show career with my second and third poodles. When others met my first poodle they kept telling me how lovely she was and that we needed more happy friendly poodles in the world.
What makes your program special?
Lyra, Lottie, and Comic; no but really. Lyra was my first poodle who was bred to be a competitive groom dog, she has coat for days. She hated competing so she lives her life as a certified therapy dog. Lottie my little spitfire became my absolute baby. She is intuitive to my needs, and my shadow. And Comic is my cuddly ding dong. My breeding program is special because my dogs are amazing.
What are the different breed sizes in your program?
Our puppies are standard size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include black, blue, cream, silver, and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Great level
Melia Poodles reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Standard Poodles.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA)
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Full Embark Panel
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
