Meet the breeder

I'm Carla M., the breeder behind Miller Hill Mini American Shepherds and Mini Australian Shepherds located in Philpot, KY. We are focused on providing healthy, intelligent family pets. We have no outdoor kennel, all of our dogs live in our home and are exposed to family life from birth. We work hard to produce dogs that will excel in sports, the show ring, and as therapy dogs. We only raise one or two litters a year and are selective about their forever homes. We do our best to ensure your new pup is right for your family!

Getting a puppy from Carla

Carla has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

Carla partners with buyers to find the best match as the puppies develop and their personalities take shape. Typically, matches are finalized when the puppies reach about 6 weeks old.

“We are careful to ensure each puppy is the right fit for its new family through temperament testing at about 6 weeks of age. I have had a lot of conversations recently trying to explain why I wait until my puppies are older before I allow reservations. I want to take some time today and share why I and many other breeders have our process set up this way. Color is fun. We all have color preferences. Sometimes we see a puppy and are so attracted to it in the moment that we just need to have that one. I have felt it. I know it. I see my fellow breeders post cute new born pics and I really want to reach out and reserve that flashy pup. Buying a puppy based on color alone can be a recipe for disaster, however. It’s my responsibility as your breeder and to the puppies that I produce to do my best to ensure that each puppy fits the lifestyle of the family they will be going to spend the next 12-15 years with. Aussies are an active breed and require a lot of physical exercise and mental stimulation. I feel it is very important that they have a fenced yard available to them so that they can have several opportunities for off leash activities every day. With a few exceptions allowed for smaller toy sized aussies, they are not generally suited for apartment living. ”

Carla is an excellent person, dog breeder and so helpful in pairing us up with the right pup. Her advice was invaluable. My wife shares pictures and stories weekly about Jolly Roo as he grows up in our family and home. Carla is who you want to work with if you’re in the market for a mini Aussie! Bar none! The Purvis’s, Richmond, KY!

I recently brought home the sweetest Mini Aussie named Charlie from Carla, and I couldn’t be more in love. Charlie is playful, healthy, and so well-socialized — you can tell he was raised in a loving environment. It’s incredibly clear that Carla knows so much about the breed, and she was kind enough to share her knowledge with me both before and after I brought him home. From start to finish, the entire process was less than 10 days, and she made sure he was going to a safe forever home. As a first-time buyer, she was the best possible introduction to working with a breeder. Charlie has been such a good pup from day one — confident, sweet, and never skittish. He settled in so quickly, and it’s clear he had a great start with Carla. I’m so thankful I found her through Good Dog, and I’d absolutely recommend her to anyone looking for a healthy, happy Mini Aussie from someone who truly cares.

Carla provided us with a beautiful and healthy miniature Australian Shepherd puppy she had named Peppermint Patty. Patty is everything Carla claimed her to be. Conformation is great, socialized very well, confident personality and loves everyone she meets. We consider ourselves very fortunate to have found Carla and her puppies. If you are in the market for a pup we highly recommend Carla and her kennel Miller Hill Aussies.
