I'm Carla M., the breeder behind Miller Hill Mini American Shepherds and Mini Aussies located in Philpot, KY. We are focused on providing healthy, intelligent family pets. All of our dogs live in our home as pets first of all, and breeding dogs secondly. Our pups are born and raised in our home and exposed to family life from birth. We work hard to preserve the breed standard and produce dogs that will excel in herding, dog sports, conformation, therapy, as service dogs, and are valued family members. Our aussies are health tested to their breed's full genetic disease panel. We only raise one or two litters a year and are selective about their forever homes. Through temperament testing and interviews, we do our best to ensure your new pup is the right fit for your home.
Q. & A. with Carla
Why did you start breeding?
I started breeding to not only preserve my own bloodlines, but to improve the breed with each litter and do my part to ensure the well-being of these dogs for generations to come. The fulfillment of seeing new puppies born, watching them grow, and helping shape and train them in preparation for their new forever homes is so rewarding.
What makes your program special?
I strive to help all of my clients find the right pup for their needs and lifestyle. My dogs and puppies are considered members of my family, and they get the best care I can possibly provide. I spend lots of time with my dogs and puppies and enjoy training them so that they will be prepared for their new lives with their forever families. If you are looking for the perfect companion, look no further!

Schroeder is a good puppy and behaves so well in the house. We're still working on house training, but he will seek out his litter box and use it if I don't take him outside soon enough. He doesn't bother kitchen towels, shoes, cords or much of anything else - he's good about leaving things alone. He has well-developed social skills and plays nicely with our older dogs. He's not afraid of dogs when he meets them, and approaches very respectfully. He absolutely loves meeting new people, and follows my 4 yr old granddaughter everywhere. He has our household routine down pat and knows what is expected of him. We're working on basic obedience skills and he is doing well on a leash. If you are looking for a puppy who is well on his way to being a wonderful family companion, Schroeder is the one!

Storm, mom
Miniature American Shepherd
About Storm
What can I say about Storm. She's a lover and gives the best hugs! She's a perfect companion inside and outside our home, and is always right by my side. She is always the first to greet guests, and has wonderful manners. Her pups are very people-oriented and have great temperaments. They are proving to be very trainable and devoted companions. We love our Stormy girl.
Vally, mom
Miniature American Shepherd
About Vally
Valley is the daughter of Fly and Bonnie and a litter mate to Smokey. She's an active girl that loves to squirrel watch and play with her brother Smokey. She's very people oriented and a good girl both inside the house, and outside as well.
Josie, mom
Miniature American Shepherd
About Josie
Josie is our little wild child! She is always entertaining and keeps us laughing. She loves to play ball and jumps 4 feet straight up and catches the ball in the air. She loves my husband Doug and follows him everywhere. Josie is our smallest young female and should give us some beautiful toy puppies. She is a half-sister to our nice female Bonnie.
Smokey, dad
Miniature American Shepherd
About Smokey
Smokey is one of my young males. He is a real sweetheart with his people and lives for a good ole back scratch. He is very enthusiastic about training - he loves to learn new things. His daddy Fly gave him his beautiful head, and he inherited wonderful dispositions from both of his parents, Fly and Bonnie.
Bonnie, mom
Miniature American Shepherd
About Bonnie
I love my Bonnie girl. She and I have always had a very close bond. She knows what I want before I ask it of her, and is obedient to a fault. Bonnie is a fantastic momma and she loves her babies! She gives them a wonderful start in life, teaching them to be confident and independent, and to love people. Bonnie is clear for the entire Embark aussie health panel, including NAD.
Fly, dad
Miniature Australian Shepherd
About Fly
Fly is my goofy, silly boy. I don't think he'll ever grow out of his puppy stage! He's always up for a game of fetch, tug or just sitting in the porch swing with me. He loves everyone he meets, car rides and swimming in the lake. He just loves life! Fly's pups inherit his beautiful disposition and gorgeous head. He has given me several show quality puppies as well. I've kept back two of his kids for my program (Smokey and Valley). He is full panel clear for the entire Embark aussie health panel.

Carla provided us with a beautiful and healthy miniature Australian Shepherd puppy she had named Peppermint Patty. Patty is everything Carla claimed her to be. Conformation is great, socialized very well, confident personality and loves everyone she meets. We consider ourselves very fortunate to have found Carla and her puppies. If you are in the market for a pup we highly recommend Carla and her kennel Miller Hill Aussies.

I recently brought home the sweetest Mini Aussie named Charlie from Carla, and I couldn’t be more in love. Charlie is playful, healthy, and so well-socialized — you can tell he was raised in a loving environment. It’s incredibly clear that Carla knows so much about the breed, and she was kind enough to share her knowledge with me both before and after I brought him home. From start to finish, the entire process was less than 10 days, and she made sure he was going to a safe forever home. As a first-time buyer, she was the best possible introduction to working with a breeder.
Charlie has been such a good pup from day one — confident, sweet, and never skittish. He settled in so quickly, and it’s clear he had a great start with Carla. I’m so thankful I found her through Good Dog, and I’d absolutely recommend her to anyone looking for a healthy, happy Mini Aussie from someone who truly cares.
