Meet the breeder

I'm Dan S., the breeder behind Monroe’s Hillcrest Dachshunds located in Monroe City, IN. We focus on research-led breeding of Piebald and Tan lines. Our dogs enjoy a 54x70' yard with solid vinyl privacy fencing and mature shade on our 3-acre property. Guided by a 30-year mentor, we study pedigrees to improve the breed and ensure every puppy is healthy, socialized, and well-adjusted.

Q. & A. with Dan

  • Why did you start breeding?

My wife and I fell in love with Dachshunds as pets and soon realized our 3-acre rural home was perfect for a program. Inspired by a mentor with 30 years of experience, we spent years researching and saving to start properly. My wife stays home to focus entirely on the dogs and breed education. Our first litter arrived last fall, born from a passion for the joy these dogs bring to a home.
  • What makes your program special?

What sets us apart is our commitment to the future. Beyond 24/7 care in our 3-acre rural home, we invest heavily in breed research and pedigree study. Our facility features a 54x70' solid vinyl-fenced area for stress-free play. We combine these physical standards with a focus on genetic improvement, using current data to refine our program and ensure the health of every generation.
  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

Our puppies are miniature size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

Our puppies have longhaired coats. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include piebald, red, chocolate, chocolate and tan, and black and tan. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Getting a puppy from Dan

Dan has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

Dan partners with buyers to find the best match as the puppies develop and their personalities take shape. Typically, matches are finalized when the puppies reach about 7 weeks old.

“Matching occurs at 7 weeks once temperament is fully assessed. Because I am home 24/7, I observe each puppy’s unique energy and personality daily. I use these insights to guide approved buyers toward the puppy that best fits their lifestyle and home environment. This ensures a successful, lifelong bond based on the dog’s temperament rather than just color or pattern.”
